AAPI Launches Global Appeal for Nepal Disaster Relief
OAK BROOK, IL — The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) has launched an urgent humanitarian appeal to support communities affected by a recent disaster in Nepal, where widespread devastation has displaced families and created critical needs for medical care, food, shelter, clean water and essential supplies.
AAPI, which represents physicians of Indian heritage in the United States, is mobilizing its network of physicians, healthcare professionals and community leaders to support relief and longer-term recovery efforts.
“At times like these, our strength as physicians extends beyond the walls of our clinics and hospitals. It is our compassion and our willingness to stand with those in need that define us,” said AAPI President Dr. Meher Medavaram, urging members and supporters to contribute to the Nepal Disaster Relief Fund.
AAPI leaders said the campaign builds on the organization’s longstanding involvement in humanitarian emergencies. During the COVID-19 pandemic, AAPI helped mobilize medical supplies, public health education, telehealth support and financial assistance for healthcare institutions and vulnerable communities in the United States and India. The organization has also supported relief efforts following earthquakes, floods and hurricanes.
“AAPI has always responded when humanity calls. Today, Nepal needs us,” Medavaram said.
Other AAPI leaders also called for collective action. President-Elect Dr. Krishan Kumar said donations and volunteer efforts could help provide immediate relief while supporting communities through recovery and rebuilding. Vice President Dr. Srini Gangasani encouraged physicians, families, friends and colleagues to participate in the campaign.
Secretary Dr. Soumya Neravetla emphasized the humanitarian role of medicine, while Treasurer Dr. Raghu Lolabhattu urged physicians and supporters worldwide to unite around the principles of healing, generosity and global responsibility.
As Nepal begins the difficult process of recovery, AAPI is calling on its members and supporters to help provide immediate assistance and support efforts to restore stability and hope to affected communities.
