Moscow– Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth met Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow, where he represented India at Russia’s 80th Victory Day celebrations commemorating the end of World War II. During the meeting, Seth conveyed India’s appreciation for Russia’s continued support in the global fight against terrorism.

Sharing photos from the event on social media, Seth wrote, “I am honored to meet President Vladimir Putin during my visit to Russia. Represented India at the banquet organized on the occasion of the 80th Victory Day anniversary. Expressed gratitude for Russia’s support in India’s fight against terrorism led by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji.”

Seth, a Member of Parliament from Ranchi and a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), arrived in Moscow on Thursday. He was received by Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar and Major General Oleg Moiseyev of the Russian Defence Ministry.

During his visit, Seth also held a bilateral meeting with Russian Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Alexander Fomin. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral defence ties and enhancing military-technical cooperation between the two countries.

“We had a productive discussion on further enhancing defence ties through existing institutional frameworks,” Seth said. “India and Russia agreed to continue regular consultations and expand cooperation in view of the evolving global security landscape.”

Earlier in the day, Seth took part in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony to honor fallen soldiers of World War II, paying tribute at a memorial in Moscow.

India was initially set to be represented by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at the Victory Day celebrations. However, sources indicate that his visit was canceled due to heightened military tensions between India and Pakistan following India’s recent Operation Sindoor counterterrorism strikes.

India and Russia share a longstanding defence partnership, and the Victory Day visit further reinforced the strategic ties between the two nations amid evolving global security dynamics. (Source: IANS)
