BOSTON—India Association of Greater Boston, one of the oldest and largest Indian American community organizations in New England, has added a new body of the Board of Trustees to advise, guide and supervise the organization’s activities.
The three members of the first-ever Board of Trustees of the IAGB are: Harish Dang, a long-time community leader and founder of Sounds of India, and two former IAGB presidents: Rajinikanth Malipat and Vaishali Gade.
Founded in 1962 as a socio-cultural organization, IAGB has played an important role in bringing the area’s Indian communities together. In its early years, IAGB played a major role in bringing the then small Indian community together to celebrate Indian festivals and special occasions.
“The Board of Trustees will serve to make strategic decisions and recommendations for current operations, monitor IAGB’s operations and ensure EC actions/initiatives align with the organization’s mission and vision statement,” IAGB said in a statement.
IAGB President Tanu Phoenix said that she is looking forward to the BOT serving as a stimulus to enhance IAGB’s membership administration, communication, elections, database maintenance, accounting, publication of communication media, conventions, and fundraising, among others.
“I see the BOT playing a crucial role in providing support to the Executive Committee in their operations and reviewing the long-term needs of
the Association’s membership and making recommendations to the Executive Committee for necessary actions,” said Ms. Phoenix. “Furthermore, I am truly counting BOT to assisting and guiding the Executive Committee in fund-raising and public relations activities.”,
IAGB Vice President Nilesh Agrawal said that he looks forward to working with these superiorly abled trustees to uphold the best interest of IAGB. He said that the BOT and the IAGB President and the Vice President will meet on a quarterly basis to review the operations of the organization.
