ACTON, MA–Essence Of India, an outdoor and free cultural event, is hosting its 4th annual event on Saturday, Aug. 20, at NARA Park in Acton, MA. This year, the event takes place in collaboration with Pakistan and is preceded by a friendly game of cricket between the two countries from 1 pm to 3:00 pm.
The game is followed by the inter-cultural performances from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm and several hands-on art and craft activities.
About 2,000 visitors have participated in the event in recent years. The event celebrates the classical and folk performances, crafts and traditions of different regions of India. The entrance to the event is free. This event has been the recipient of several citations from the State Senate and the Gold star award from Massachusetts Cultural Council after being nominated from Concord Cultural Council, organizers of the event said.
After a successful collaboration with China in 2015, this year organizers are collaborating with Pakistan. True to its spirit the game of Cricket between India and Pakistan is being called “Cricket Beyond Borders”.
After the game of cricket there will be several classical, regional and traditional performances, as well as several interactive booths, Pakistani art/Indian Traditional art, culture booths and crafts by both countries. Indian/Pakistani food will be provided by Udupi and Chettinad Grill.

Organizers said in a statement that the goal of the event is to bring communities together by creating cultural bridges, and encourage our children to discover multicultural traditions and heritage. This event is partially funded by Town of Acton, Acton-Boxborough, Chelmsford, Concord, Sudbury and Westford Cultural Councils which in part are funded by Massachusetts Cultural Council. Other sponsors of the event include Udupi/Chettinad Grill, DCU, Desai Foundation, Enterprise Bank, and WCU.
