INDIA New England News: Please tell our readers about your work and what you enjoy most about it.

Rosy Sandhu: After working as a physician in the hospital setting for close to a decade, taking care of acutely ill patients hospitalized with conditions like diabetes, heart failure, heart attacks and strokes, I realized that although I was helping my patients get better but I was not able to make any major impact in their lives.

Over time, I saw many patients whom we call ‘frequent fliers’ as they unfortunately keep getting readmitted with the same thing over and over. Quickly, I realized a common thread that could be identified in a lot of these chronically ill people and it became evident to me that during these admissions, I was able to put bandaids on to their problems but the bigger issues were not being addressed effectively.

Obesity, poor nutritional habits, lifestyle choices, stress, poor self-esteem and hormonal changes were major issues not being addressed at all due to the time constraints and due to the way modern medical system is designed.

About 5 years ago, I decided to step out of the box and envisioned creating a professional space which would be welcoming, technically equipped with all the latest evidenced based technology and expertise, where my goal would be to address all of these issues that people face, which prevent them from leading their most fulfilled lives.

My vision was to create an obesity and wellness center, where my patients will get all the time and attention that they need to help guide them and navigate them through their respective, tough personal journeys. Once Neem Medical Spa & Wellness Center was born, I’ve been privileged enough to work with hundreds of women and men on their personal journeys through their struggles with weight management, hormonal balancing, antiaging needs and body contouring to address issues that hold them back to reach their personal best in life. It is extremely rewarding and fulfilling to see people reach their personal goals and feel good about themselves, and how it positively impacts their personal and professional lives.

INE: To which charitable, community and professional groups do you belong and why?

RS: In my quest for continuous ongoing education and professional advancement to bring in the latest advances in science to my patients, I am part of professional societies like the American Academy of Antiaging Medicine, the International Association of Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine, The Obesity Association.

I participate in the local community town chamber of commerce meetings and events to contribute to my local societies and help with their growth. I have also been a member of the National Assocaition of Professional Women as I strongly support and am very passionate about women empowerment and growth in the professional work circle.

INE: What are your hobbies and interests?

RS: One of my childhood passions has been writing short stories and I’ve started working on my writing over the past year. I find that my most joyous and peaceful moments are spent writing about life experiences, inspirational quotes and reading motivating biographies.

I have an unending thirst for knowledge and would be happy if I was a student for life, learning about new advances in medical knowledge and creating new ventures as an entrepreneur. I also enjoy going hiking with my daughter and exploring new places with her and cherish her amazement as she experiences new things.

INE: In what way do you feel you have positively influenced or served the local community, your company/organization or professional field?

RS: I hope over the past few years, I’ve been able to make a positive impact to the lives of my patients as I’ve been a guide for then and walked with them as we have together navigated through their challenges with weight loss, healthy nutritional habits, taking care of out of balance hormones as they go through menopause and helped men and women get their confidence back by taking care of their skin and health concerns that may be holding them back from leading the most fulfilled lives due to personal insecurities.

INE:  What are your favorite books?

RS:  I really enjoy reading books that keep me motivated and striving for bigger goals and challenges while becoming a better, more humble and an empathetic person. Two of the recent books I read really impacted me a lot and I highly recommend everyone to read them at some point in their lives:

Start with why-by Simon Sinek

Never Split the Difference-by Chris Voss

INE: Your favorite quotes?

RS: ‘The challenge of our unknown future is so much more exciting than the stories of our accomplished past.

‘Trust is built on telling the truth, not telling people what they want to hear.’

‘Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.’

INE: Who inspires you the most?

RS: I am inspired by people, especially women who show me courage and fearlessness in the face of any obstacle or hardships of life. My mom is my constant source of inspiration, and I am awed by her courage, determination and dedication as she has spent her lifetime balancing her own work life and social life, raising us with all the love and care a family could ask for, being a mentor and a role model. She has always taught me to follow my heart, stay strong and have integrity no matter what the circumstances may be in life. She has taught me to have faith in destiny, and to stay focused on my goals with relentless perseverance.

I am also deeply inspired by Oprah Winfrey, who makes me feel proud to be a woman. She makes me realize and appreciate the strength I have to make a difference in other people’s lives and inspires me to contribute to the world that we live in and provide service to those around me. Her story fascinates me as it helps light the spark of possibility in everyone, no matter where you come from, and helps us realize that no goal is too high if you follow it with all your heart and soul.

INE: What core values do you try to live by?

RS: I deeply value kindness and empathy, and strongly believe that we should strive for being kind in all our interactions to build long term relationships. In addition, there is although there is no substitute to hard work and perseverance, but to be really be successful, we need to explore within ourselves to first find our purpose in life, our true passion and then spend every day following this passion and then success will follow.  I think I can best summarize it like this: ‘Work is expending effort on things we don’t want to do. Passion is expending energy on things we love to do. The goal is to do no work.’
