How Hrithik helped Sameera Reddy overcome stammering

Mumbai– Actress Sameera Reddy has revealed that she had a stammering problem, and it was actor Hrithik Roshan who helped her overcome it.

On a chat show, Sameera spoke of her struggles with stammering, adding that Hrithik, who had also faced speech disorder in his life, had helped her deal with the issue.

“Due to my stammering problem, I would hesitate to speak in front of others, and (would hesitate) going for auditions thinking that people would judge me. Hrithik, being the sweet and caring person he is, noticed this, and gave me a book that changed my life. It helped me overcome my fear. Gradually, I started noticing changes in my speech. I also went to a speech therapist and started working on my speech. I cannot thank Hrithik enough for that book and I still have it with me,” Sameera said, who recently gave birth to her second child.

Sharing a throwback photograph from her school days, Twinkle, who is also an author and producer, started the hashtag “#WhyTheGap” on social media, emphasising on the need to educate girls.

“Growing up, as you can see not only did I have the same hairstyle as my class teacher( why? why? why?) but studying and doing well was very important to me and it all helped me to become an independent woman. 2/5 girls still don’t complete school. Let’s ask #WhyTheGap with Save the Children India to give every girl #TheRightStart.”

She nominated Akshay, actress Sonam Kapoor-Ahuja and writer Tahira Kashyap to share their stories and make people understand the vital role of education in life.

Taking up her wife’s challenge, Akshay uploaded his old picture in which he is seen sitting on a bicycle.

Akshay spoke on the importance of health and nutrition in the growing-up years.

“Growing up I was always inclined towards sports and my mother would ensure I got nutritious home-cooked meals to fuel my passion. But it’s a privilege that millions of street children do not have access to. 11,72,604 children in India can’t afford even a single meal a day! It’s time to ask #WhyTheGap with Save the Children India,” he wrote.

Big B says 75 percent of his liver is gone

“I keep quoting my personal example all the time and try and propagate the idea of getting yourself detected and I don’t mind saying this publicly I am a tuberculosis survivor, Hepatitis B survivor… Bad blood infusion went in and 75 percent of my liver is gone but because I was able to detect it even after a period of 20 years, when 75 percent of my liver is gone… I am still surviving on 25 percent,” Big B said at NDTV’s Swasth India launch.

The 76-year-old, who has been associated with various health campaigns like Polio, Hepatitis B, Tuberculosis and diabetes, urged people to get tested and diagnosed.

“Then there is a cure. Even with Tuberculosis… I did not know for almost 8 years I was suffering from Tuberculosis. I keep saying that with immodesty if it can happen to me (it can happen) to anyone. Therefore if you are not willing to get yourself tested then you would never find out and there’s never going to be a cure for it,” he said.

I won’t apologise for films I have made: Karan Johar

Mumbai– Karan Johar is often criticised for only focussing on beautiful, high-class people with perfect lives in his works, but the filmmaker has said that he wont apologise for films that has made, although he is willing to change his cinematic syntax with changing times.

“I made that kind of films because I was raised in a certain atmosphere and there was also an aspiration that was attached to my way of thinking. I always thought that cinema was meant to be larger-than-life and therefore, I created characters that were aspirational. But somewhere down the line, cinema’s syntax changed and I have to kind of adapt to that, and make sure that my characters are more rooted and real, so that they don’t seem so flashy anymore. I am accused of affluenza but, having said that, I won’t apologize for the films that I have been made, although I think I have to tweak the level affluenza in future,” KJo said, while interacting with the media at author Shunali Khullar Shroff’s book launch, “Love In The Time Of Affluenza” in Mumbai.

Affluenza means first world problems. It is vastly believed that the privilege class really doesn’t have problems, and that their biggest concerns in life are emptiness, feeling disenchanted with life and pursuing money to be happy with it.

In most Karan Johar films, the characters are beautiful, drive luxury cars and live in posh houses, thereby betraying symptoms of affluenza. Asked if he agrees that affluenza is a reality, Karan said: “When you talk about my films and affluenza, then that’s been (done by way of) criticism. Everyone says I make films about first world problems. It is said that if Ranbir Kapoor flies a private plane in a film, then his heart shouldn’t be broken at all. Apparently, if you are wealthy you are not allowed to feel pain.”
