Dilip Kumar diagnosed with mild pneumonia
Mumbai–Veteran actor Dilip Kumar, 94 was diagnosed with mild pneumonia but his health parameters are now normal, a family friend said on Tuesday.
Faisal Farooqui, a family friend of Dilip Kumar took to the actor’s official Twitter account, and wrote: “Saab was diagnosed with mild pneumonia. He’s been advised to rest at home. Allah is kind that all other parameters are showing normal – Saab is doing better now. Pls, remember him in your prayers and duas.”
Earlier this year, in August, the legendary actor was admitted in the Lilavati Hospital here due to dehydration and urinary tract infection but later his health condition improved and he was taken back to his residence.
Dilip Kumar appeared in some of the iconic films of Indian cinema like “Kohinoor”, “Mughal-e-Azam”, “Shakti”, “Ram Aur Shyam” among others.
Smriti recalls Amitabh’s AIR audition travesty at IFFI award ceremony
Panaji–Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday presented IFFI’s ‘Indian Film Personality of the Year’ award to megastar Amitabh Bachchan, and said it was only logical and befitting, that decades after Bachchan as a struggler was rejected by All India Radio during an audition for radio announcer, that the ministry was bestowing an award on the superstar.
“There was one incident in his lifetime at AIR, when he went for auditioning and he was rejected. Therefore it is logical today and it is our good fortune, that the same Ministry, from this dais, on behalf of the government of India, on behalf of every India, on behalf of every film fan, you are being awarded,” Irani said at the closing ceremony of the 48th International Film Festival of India at Panaji.
Amitabh was presented the Indian Film Personality of the Year award, which includes a silver peacock, a certificate and scroll and a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.

Panaji– In a fast and disintegrating world, cinema is one of the most worthy examples of unity and integration, said Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who was conferred the Indian film personality of the year award winner at the 48th IFFI on Tuesday.
“I have always felt that my respect and regard for the Indian film industry has rested in the presence that the film industry has had in our world. When we sit inside a darkened hall, we never ask for caste, creed, colour or the religion of the person sitting next to us is,” he said, in his award acceptance speech at the closing ceremony of the 2017 edition of the International Film Festival of India.
“Yet, we see the same film, we laugh at the same jokes, we cry at the same emotion, we sing the same songs. In this fast disintegrating world of today, where can you find such a wonderful and worthy example of unity and integration as you do in the world of cinema,” he asked.
Citing a cinema-related anecdote involving his father and great Hindi poet Harivanshrai Bachchan, Amitabh said: “I once asked my father what do you getting watching films on TV every evening. He said: ‘I get to see poetic justice in three hours. You and I will see poetic justice in perhaps a lifetime’.”
Bengali film industry holds 15-minute blackout against ‘Padmavati’ protests
Kolkata–Expressing its solidarity with the cast and crew of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming “Padmavati”, the Bengali film fraternity on Tuesday observed a “15 minute black out” denouncing the protests against the film.
The entire Bengali film industry came to a standstill from 12 noon to 12.15 p.m., as actors, technicians, directors, producers and all other stakeholders joined the symbolic protest by wearing black badges and coming out of the studios, where pre- and post-production work on films and television serials were being held.
The Eastern India Motion pictures’ Association, the Artist Forum and the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers had on Monday jointly called for the protest.
