Bollywood divas sizzle on ramp at LFW 2019

Mumbai– Bollywood actresses Pooja Hedge, Diana Penty, Tara Sutaria and Rakul Preet Singh walked the ramp at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019 on Friday.

Pooja turned showstopper for designer Jayanti Reddy while Diana, Tara and Rakul Preet closed the shows for Riddhi Mehra, Nachiket Barve and veteran Ritu Kumar, respectively.

The “Mohenjo Daro” actress wore a purple lehenga-choli with intricate mint green-coloured meenakari detailing, and a contrasting silver dupatta. She completed her look with a glossy makeup and open beach wavy hair.

The model-turned-actress who returned to the runway said that her journey from the ramp to films and to ramp again had made it a “full circle”.

On her look, she said: “I would definitely choose a similar look as it gives a modern twist to the traditional outfit.”

Diana wore an ivory lehenga that had a lot of surface texturing and pearl embellishment with a matching blouse and dupatta.

Tara who made her Bollywood debut with Karan Johar’s “Student of the Year 2” walked the ramp donning a boho look. She wore a slip dress with white, full-sleeved blouse, layered with long tassles, and knee-length black boots.

Rakul Preet who was last seen in the movie “De De Pyaar De” looked beautiful as she wore a black and silver jumpsuit with bead work and with a sheer plain tulle cape.

Saif wants shutterbugs to leave son Taimur alone

Mumbai– Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s son Taimur is an online sensation and paparrazi’s favourite, but the constant media glare on the two-year-old kid bothers the parents.

A video of Saif scolding shutterbugs is doing the rounds on the Internet. In the clip, Saif is seen giving Taimur a piggy ride and walking towards the media, and can be heard saying: “No, no not outside the house please, like we promised. No, enough, you are not supposed to do that.”

While the little child was smiling and waving to the photographs.

Saif had earlier expressed concern over the growing paparazzi culture in India. He wondered how people could be so interested in Taimur’s life.

“The media’s constant attention to him does not really bother me, but it would be better if it was not there. If the media likes it, people like it, I am okay with it. But I won’t be interested in someone else’s kids so much. On one level, it is nice that he makes people laugh and smile, but on another level, why is so much attention given to a kid? Why are we so interested in a little kid? I don’t undertstand,” Saif told IANS a while back.

Vivek Oberoi to produce movie on Balakot IAF strikes

Mumbai– Actor Vivek Oberoi, who last played Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a film, will now produce a movie based on the Balakot air strikes to salute the valour of the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Titled “Balakot”, the film will be based on the air strikes as well as the capture and subsequent release of IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman in the aftermath of the terror attack in Kashmir’s Pulwama district on February 14.

“As a proud Indian, a patriot, and a member of the film fraternity, it’s my duty to highlight what our Armed Forces are truly capable of. In the form of a trilingual, this film is a powerful tool to underline the achievements of brave officers like Wing Commander Abhinandan, who went behind the enemy lines and did what makes every Indian proud of them,” said Vivek.

“The Balakot air strike were one of the most well-planned attacks by the IAF. I have followed everything in the news right from the attack in Pulwama to the air strikes in Balakot. There was a lot that was speculated and spoken about back then; this film will put all of that to rest, once and for all. I thank the IAF for trusting us with this story and we hope to do justice to it,” he added.

To be shot in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, the film will feature established actors from these industries in pivotal roles, including that of Wing Commander Abhinandan, who was later awarded Vir Chakra, and Squadron Leader Minty Agarwal, who guided the IAF’s interception mission launched to stop Pakistan’s fighter jets. She has become the first woman to receive Yudh Seva Medal.

It’s always best to play your age: Suniel Shetty

Mumbai– Actor Suniel Shetty who essays a mentor in his debut Kannada film, “Pehlwaan”, says it is always best to play your age in films.

“I am playing a mentor to Sudeep’s character in the film, a father figure to the protagonist. It was exciting because I always wanted to play a character who is calm and composed. I think it’s always best to play your age and it has come out beautifully. Sudeep and (director) Krishna has managed my character very well. I think after a long break, coming back and playing characters like this with a lot of emotions and aggression is a good feeling,” said the 58-year-old actor, while interacting with the media at the trailer launch of “Pehlwaan” along with co-actors Kichcha Sudeepa, Sushant Singh, Aakanksha Singh and the film’s director S. Krishna on Thursday in Mumbai.

Asked what his experience was working in a Kannada film, Suniel said: “I was in a confused state of mind whether to continue working or not. Before this film, I had taken a four-year sabbatical but when something good comes to you, you want to taste waters. This was a kannada film offer, and I am not very familiar with the languag, but then again it’s my turf. So, when Sudeep (actor) and Krishna (director) offered me this good subject then, I knew it was up my alley.”

The one-minute, 53-second trailer promises the film will be high on action. Sudeep plays a wrestler and a boxer, fighting for a cause.

“Pehlwaan” has been dubbed for release into Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi for wider reach. The film releases on September 12.

Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira to make directorial debut

Mumbai– Superstar Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira Khan will make her directorial debut with a theatre production titled “Euripides’ Medea”.

The play with a Greek tragedy storyline will be showcased in select Indian cities, this year end.

Sources close to her reveal that she has already commenced work on her directorial and the premiere of her play is scheduled to happen in December.

The rehearsals for the play will be starting soon and will happen in Mumbai itself.

“There’s no particular reason that I decided to start with theatre. I love theatre, it’s magical and all-consuming; in its classical form, in the world of technology, it’s very real and physical. I love the suspension of disbelief that the audience allows for because then there’s so much you can express,” Ira said.

Unlike most star kids, she has “never considered acting”.

“In terms of more plays, I’d have to find a story that I want to tell. I don’t have a particular genre that I like. I’m not particularly into horror but other than that I’m open to all sorts of stories,” she said.

This comes a day after her “Everything will be okay” post that had left her fans worried.

Ganesh Venkatraman to host ‘Crime Patrol’ in Tamil

Mumbai– Actor Ganesh Venkatraman has been roped in as anchor of the Tamil version of the popular show “Crime Patrol”.

Ganesh will step into the shoes of Annup Sonii who toplined the Hindi version of the crime series for years.

“Hosting a show like ‘Crime Patrol’ is a serious job, considering we need to create awareness about crime and make the viewers cautions. My grandfather was a police officer and my father is a lawyer, so naturally law and order run in my blood. My tough cop roles in my movies have been always appreciated by Tamil audiences. I am super excited to don a new avatar piecing together these crimes for our audiences,” Ganesh said.

“For any society, rather than being just reactive once the crime is committed, it is the need of the hour to be a proactive society and take measures to reduce crimes in the first place. This can only happen by making our citizens more aware of how these crimes occurred and the modus operandi involved. I am very happy to be associated with ‘Crime Patrol’ which has been the longest running crime reality series in Hindi television,” he added.

Sudha Chandran to play a judge in ‘Tara From Satara’

Mumbai– Actress Sudha Chandran, also a renowned Bharatnatyam dancer, will play a judge in the show “Tara From Satara”.

“I am playing a judge of the reality show to be shown in ‘Tara from Satara’. I have worked with National award-winning artiste Upendra Limaye in a film and he is a fantastic actor,” said Sudha.

The two actors had worked together in the 2008 film titled “Pranali – The Tradition”.

As for the show, Sudha’s part is yet to begin. “I am already excited and looking forward to it,” she said.
