Social message with dose of entertainment reaches more people: Anil Kapoor
Mumbai– Popular Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, who has come on board for a TV show which addresses the issue of sanitation, says every story reaches out to a larger audience much better when it is woven with entertainment.
At the launch of the show “Navrangi Re!” here on Tuesday, the National Award-winning actor said: “I used to visit Raj Kapoor uncle as a kid and he used to say something that I strongly believe in…that if we can offer entertainment with a social message, the cause and awareness on the issue reaches out a number of people. In the show ‘Navarangi Re!’, we have attempted to do that.”
The show is produced by Swastik Productions and it has partnered with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and BBC Media Action.
It features Aamir Ali, Vaishnavi Dhanraj, Sushmita Mukherjee and Raju Kher among others. Anil is playing a special character in the story.
On the concept of the show, Anil said: “I think cleanliness starts from home and then goes to the society and the world. We all have to work towards building an environmentally friendly world.”
I believe in living the character, says Sara Khan
Mumbai– Actress Sara Khan, who will be seen in ‘Pyar Ektarfa’, has said she believes in living the character while working in television or films.
Sara Khan was interacting with the media at poster launch of ‘Pyar Ektarfa’ along with her co-actor Bhushan Patiyal on Tuesday in Mumbai.
Sara Khan and Bhushan Patiyal will begin shooting of ‘Pyar Ektarfa’ “very soon”.
About preparation for playing her character in the film, she said, “Now, we will get script of this film so, we will be getting inside the character. I think it’s not difficult to get into a character if you start living it. I believe in living the character whether it’s in films or television.”
Talking about her character in the film, Sara said, “I think the speciality about my character in this film is that I will get to perform a lot. It is a satisfying feeling for an actor when one gets an opportunity to portray different shades through the character because it fulfills one’s hunger.”
Richa Chadha calls Akshaye Khanna ‘underrated, intelligent’
Mumbai– Actress Richa Chadha says her “Section 375” co-actor Akshaye Khanna is brilliant, but underrated.
Talking about her experience of working with Akshaye, Richa said in a statement: “I have admired Akshaye Khanna’s work in offbeat films like ‘Gandhi, My Father’ and the cult film ‘Dil Chahta Hai’. I am really delighted that I can team up with him for this one. He is brilliant, so underrated and intelligent.”
She is enjoying shooting with Akshaye and with director Ajay Behl.
“Section 375” highlights how a critical law meant for the safety of women can be misused. As the title suggests, the film will delve into the particular section as defined in the Indian Penal Code.
The project is backed by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Kumar Mangat and Abhishek Pathak.
Richa is currently awaiting the release of “Shakeela”, a biopic on the eponymous southern adult film actress who made it big in the low budget film world.
I hate doing roles in my comfort zone: Nawazuddin Siddiqui
New Delhi– Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is gearing up for the release of his forthcoming film “Thackeray”, says he hates taking up roles which do not challenge his range as a performer.
“I love doing challenging roles. With each film, I want to try something new. I hate doing roles in my comfort zone… I want to be a versatile actor. Now I look upto only new, different and challenging roles for me.
“You have got only one life, try experimenting new things… and that’s what I want to do,” Nawazuddin told the media here while promoting “Thackeray” on Tuesday.
In what seemed like a dig at typical romantic hero roles, he spread his arms out in Shah Rukh Khan’s signature style, and said: “I don’t want to do such comfort zoned roles… I want to push myself with every film of mine.”
In the film, he will be seen playing the role of late Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray. According to Nawazuddin, portraying Balasaheb’s life on-screen was quite tough.
He said: “Balasahebji was an iconic figure… I am honoured that I am doing a film based on his life. He was a cartoonist, writer and political figure. His journey has inspired me a lot.
“It was a tough and challenging role for me, because he was an iconic figure and while doing the film on him, the only thing which remained in my mind was that through my acting, I have to do justice to the role. So, I researched a lot about him, I watched a lot of his videos, speeches and Sanjay Raut (writer) helped me in giving details about Balasahebji’s life.”
We all have deeply engraved notion of shame: Swara Bhasker
Mumbai– Actress Swara Bhasker says people have a deeply engraved notion of shame, which acts as an obstacle to spot the wrong in the society.
“One of the values we give to our children in the form of respect is the notion of shame. It is across caste, class, linguistic barriers, we all have deeply engraved notion of shame,” Swara said in a statement.
“This is one of the biggest obstacles to recognise something wrong is happening to you, and to be able to call it out and to share it and come out without, and try and be a part of the movement to stop these things.
“Do not subscribe to this notion of shame. Shame is nothing, there is an integrity to our soul, even if our bodies are violated nobody can take our integrity from us. Your sense of sanctity does not lie in your body. My learning for every girl out there is do not subscribe to this notion of shame,” added the actress while talking about her learnings after working in the Hindi film industry.
Madhavan’s painfully long transformation for ‘Rocketry…’
Mumbai– Actor R. Madhavan says getting the look of scientist and aerospace engineer S. Nambi Narayanan for “Rocketry – The Nambi Effect” was a “painfully long” process.
“The process took painfully long…about 2 days of sitting on a chair for 14 hours at a stretch,” Madhavan said in a statement.
“Initially it looked easy but later I realised how tough it was on the body,” he added.
The actor says getting the look right is “definitely half the battle won”.
“But the other half was really really tough because the age group I’m playing is around 70-75. Mr. Nambi is a very good-looking man and he has got his own charm and charisma so it took me around two-and-a-half years to actually imbibe him and learn how to walk like him.It wasn’t easy and it’s probably one of the toughest looks and characters I’ve had to pull off”.
