BOSTON– The Asian Community Fund at the Boston Foundation (ACF), the first and only fund exclusively dedicated to supporting Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in Massachusetts, announced that Takeda CEO-elect Julie Kim and MIT Provost Dr. Anantha Chandrakasan will be honored at its Third Annual “Rising Together” Gala at the Westin Copley Place in October.

Kim, who will become president and CEO of Takeda in June, will receive the Paul W. Lee AAPI Leadership Award, which recognizes leaders whose contributions have opened doors and created new pathways for AAPI communities in Massachusetts and beyond.

Dr. Chandrakasan, Vannevar Bush Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT and former dean of the MIT School of Engineering, will receive the Helen Chin Schlichte Community Builder Award, which honors leaders who promote collaboration, connection, and collective progress across communities.

Named for ACF’s co-founders, the awards will be presented before an expected audience of 700 attendees on October 2.

“We are excited to celebrate Julie and Anantha for their outstanding accomplishments in advancing innovation, strengthening collaboration, and addressing society’s most pressing challenges,” said Paul W. Lee, Co-Founder and Chair of the Asian Community Fund. “Their impact is significant, and both leaders exemplify a commitment to building a more inclusive region.”

Now in its third year, the gala highlights AAPI visibility, representation, and storytelling, featuring cultural performances, cuisine, and recognition of regional leaders. Last year’s event raised more than $800,000 in support of ACF programs and grantmaking.

“There has never been a more important moment to invest in AAPI leadership and representation,” said Julie Kim. “It is an honor to receive this award and to support the mission of ensuring AAPI communities are seen, celebrated, and empowered.”

“Greater Boston’s future depends on our ability to attract and support talented people and ensure an inclusive environment where everyone can contribute,” said Dr. Chandrakasan. “The Asian Community Fund highlights the importance of investing in people and communities that drive progress.”

The 2026 Gala will be co-chaired by Anu Chitrapu of Bank of America, Rushika Fernandopulle of Liza Health, and Chinh Pham of Greenberg Traurig, LLP.

Past honorees, including Geeta Aiyer, Bob Rivers, Yvonne Hao, and Reshma Kewalramani, will serve as honorary co-chairs.

“The success of the gala reflects the strength of AAPI and immigrant communities in our region,” said Danielle Kim, Executive Director of the Asian Community Fund. “We invite everyone to join us in celebrating this impact.”

Last year’s gala featured remarks from Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey. Program details and ticket information are available at https://www.tbf.org/acfgala2026.
