WINCHESTER, MA—Ratna Dalal has found a niche. Her first book, The Water Color of Life, is a contemporary fiction, with a dozen short stories set in India and the United States. It addresses four issues: human passions, globalization, women’s issues and the contrast between East and West.
Dalal, who moved to Winchester, MA, in August this year and is an architect by profession, said it took about two and a half years to write this book. It was published in 2012, but is gaining popularity now as some reviewers are recommending it as a must read for Asian women. The book is available in paper and e-version (Kindle).
“The seeds for writing this book evolved over time. What led to their germination were basically four factors namely: human passions, globalization, womens’ issues and the contrast of life between East and West,” Dalal told INDIA New England News.
For the past 25 years, Dalal lived in New York state. Since August of this year, her new home town is Winchester .
“I should add that I grew up in New Delhi and then lived in Chicago for two years to pursue higher studies,” Dalal said.
Dalal is an architect by profession and holds a B.Arch. from S.P.A. (New Delhi) and M.S.Arch from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. In 1989 she won the first prize in the national level Spartek Study Abroad contest in India and was awarded an international scholarship. She has lived, studied and worked in India and U.S.A. and gained diversified experience as an architect in many different sectors.
Dalal, who is happily married with one child, recently gave a talk called ‘A Dozen Short Stories’ about her book at Winchester Public Library in Winchester.
