Monica Saigal’s New Short Story Collection Explores Love, Loss and the Courage to Begin Again

The Lotus Blooms Twice moves between India and the United States, exploring betrayal, longing, memory, marriage, aging and second chances

BOSTON — Author Monica Saigal is set to release The Lotus Blooms Twice: Stories of Love, Loss, and Redemption, a new collection of interconnected short stories exploring the complicated ways people experience love, loss and renewal.

Scheduled for release October 1, 2026, the collection moves between India and the United States, following characters as they navigate relationships, betrayal, memory, marriage, aging and self-discovery.

At the center of the book is the lotus, a metaphor for more than simply surviving difficult circumstances. For Saigal, it represents the possibility of healing and finding the courage to bloom again.

The collection takes an emotionally realistic, often unvarnished look at love—not as an idealized romance, but as something shaped by choices, regrets, resilience and the passage of time.

Early praise for the book has come from authors, food writers and cultural voices.

Kathleen Flinn, author of The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry, calls the collection “a beautifully written collection that explores the many ways we love, lose, endure and begin again,” describing it as “tender, wise and filled with hope.”

Author Mollie Ann Cox says the stories “will make you cry, laugh, and long for delicious Indian food.” Chef, historian and bestselling author Ramin Ganeshram describes the stories as “vibrant jewels” that together form an elegant whole.

Food blogger Niv Mani offers a more culinary comparison, describing Saigal’s new collection as “cold cooked like a ceviche”—sharp and refined, while leaving readers wanting one more taste.

The stories are expected to appeal particularly to readers of literary fiction and the South Asian diaspora, as well as anyone drawn to stories about relationships, reinvention and second chances later in life.

With its movement between India and the United States, The Lotus Blooms Twice also explores the emotional terrain of identity, belonging and relationships across cultures and generations.

The book is available for preorder and will be released October 1 through major booksellers, including Amazon and Bookshop.org.

For Saigal, the collection ultimately asks readers to consider what happens after love changes, loss occurs or life takes an unexpected turn—and whether it is possible to begin again.

The Lotus Blooms Twice: Stories of Love, Loss, and Redemption will be released October 1, 2026.
