Daboo Malik Reflects on Emotional Full-Circle Moment as Son Armaan Performs With Shankar Mahadevan

MUMBAI–Indian music composer and singer Daboo Malik has shared an emotional reflection on his decades-long association with veteran singer Shankar Mahadevan, describing his son Armaan Malik’s recent stage performance with Mahadevan as a special moment that brought back memories of his early career in the music industry.
Malik took to social media to share a photograph with Mahadevan and recall their professional relationship, which dates back to his first television project, “Harmony,” on Sony Entertainment Television.
According to Malik, he conceptualized and directed the music for the show, which featured Mahadevan in what he described as the singer’s first television performance.
The composer recalled that Mahadevan performed songs originally sung by legendary Indian playback singers Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar during the concert.
Watching his son Armaan share the stage with Mahadevan years later brought those memories rushing back, Malik said.
“Life Comes a full circle … It was my first Television Show On Sony Called HARMONY which was Music directed and conceptualised by me and that day @shankar.mahadevan was my most important singer and it was his first TV performance and rest as they is history . He sang for me songs of rafi Saahab Lataji and various legendary covers for that concert … Etched in my memory and now when @armaanmalik performed with him on stage for a joint concert it was all the memories rushing in my head.”
Malik also recalled spending time with Mahadevan and other musicians, reflecting on their personal and professional journeys through the years.
“We spoke shared our life journey and had so much fun talking . . Love u @akritikakar @shivammahadevan and @armaanmalik for being a part of this creative madness . Wonderful Times with @n tinaroraofficial and his team .”
The reunion highlighted the longstanding relationships within India’s music industry, where established composers and performers have often worked alongside younger generations of artists.
Daboo Malik comes from a family with deep roots in Indian film music.
He is the son of veteran music composer Sardar Malik and the brother of Bollywood composer Anu Malik. Over several decades, he has worked as a music director, singer and actor in the Hindi entertainment industry.
His film music credits include “Maine Dil Tujhko Diya,” “Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge,” “Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam” and “I Proud to Be an Indian.”
His sons, Armaan Malik and Amaal Mallik, have also established successful careers in the Indian music industry.
Armaan, who began singing as a child, has become a prominent playback singer and performer known for his work in Bollywood and several regional Indian film industries.
In addition to recording songs in multiple Indian languages, he has pursued international music projects and developed a following beyond India.
His recent collaboration onstage with Mahadevan was particularly meaningful for his father because it connected two generations of musicians who had been part of different stages of his life.
Amaal Mallik, meanwhile, has built his career primarily as a music composer, director, singer and songwriter.
He made his film-composing debut with the Salman Khan-starrer “Jai Ho” and subsequently contributed music to films including “M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story,” “Airlift,” “Kapoor & Sons” and “Badrinath Ki Dulhania.”
Amaal also expanded his presence in entertainment by participating in the reality television series “Bigg Boss 19” in 2025.
For Daboo Malik, seeing Armaan perform alongside Mahadevan represented more than a musical collaboration. It was a reminder of his early work in television, the professional relationships he developed along the way and the continuation of his family’s musical legacy through the next generation.
