India’s Foreign Minister Jaishankar Meets BJP Supporters and Indian Diaspora in Atlanta

ATLANTA–Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met members of the Overseas Friends of BJP and the Indian American community in Atlanta during his visit to the United States for high-level diplomatic meetings focused on global economic cooperation, supply chains and security in the Indo-Pacific region.

Jaishankar shared details of his meeting with the Overseas Friends of BJP, an organization of supporters of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party living outside the country, in a social media post.

“Delighted to meet Overseas Friends of BJP in Atlanta today morning,” Jaishankar wrote on X.

The meeting was part of a series of engagements involving the Indian foreign minister during his visit to Georgia, where he also participated in international diplomatic discussions.

On Sunday, Jaishankar met members of Atlanta’s Indian diaspora, acknowledging their accomplishments and contributions.

“Always a pleasure to interact with Indian diaspora. Proud of their achievements and contributions,” he wrote in another post on X.

The community engagements took place alongside Jaishankar’s participation in the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which brought together senior diplomats to discuss global economic challenges, trade cooperation and developments affecting international security.

Among the major issues discussed were the resilience of global supply chains, economic cooperation and strategic developments in the Indo-Pacific.

Following the conclusion of the G20 meeting on Saturday, Jaishankar emphasized India’s position on strengthening international supply chains while opposing economic practices that undermine competition.

“The @G20org #Atlanta today concluded with the Plenary III focused on Supply Chains,” he wrote on X.

During the discussions, Jaishankar argued that secure and resilient supply chains are essential to global economic stability.

He also stressed the importance of allowing countries to develop their industrial capabilities without facing unfair economic restrictions.

“The right to industrialise must be promoted; predatory practices and targeting competition should be firmly resisted,” he said.

Jaishankar also participated in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta, joining representatives from the United States, Japan and Australia.

The Quad, a diplomatic partnership involving India, the United States, Japan and Australia, focuses on cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, including economic security, technology and regional stability.

During the meeting, Jaishankar held discussions with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong.

The ministers discussed strengthening supply chains, improving economic resilience and addressing challenges associated with non-market economic practices.

Jaishankar emphasized the importance of cooperation in strategically significant sectors, including advanced technology, critical minerals and energy.

He also highlighted the need to preserve freedom of choice for countries in the Indo-Pacific while promoting stability and economic prosperity.

According to Jaishankar, the Quad’s continued engagement in the region is aimed at strengthening cooperation among its members and responding to emerging economic and security challenges.

The discussions also addressed increasing economic pressures affecting countries in the Indo-Pacific and the need for coordinated responses to practices that distort markets and competition.

The Atlanta meetings formed part of India’s broader diplomatic efforts to strengthen relationships with major international partners while advancing its economic and strategic interests.

Following his engagements in the United States, Jaishankar is scheduled to travel to Antigua and Barbuda, where he will lead India’s delegation at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs. (Source: IANS)
