22 Indian Nationals, Including 14 Seafarers, Killed in West Asia Conflict

NEW DELHI– At least 22 Indian nationals, including 14 seafarers, have been killed in the ongoing conflict in West Asia, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said Wednesday, expressing concern over the escalating violence and its impact on Indian citizens in the region.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said during a media briefing in New Delhi that three Indian nationals had died in Saudi Arabia. He said the Indian government remains in close contact with Indian communities across the region to monitor their safety and provide assistance.

“On the question of the total number of people who we have unfortunately lost in the war in West Asia, as I have told you before, we are deeply concerned with the ongoing conflict in West Asia. So far we have lost 22 Indian nationals in the conflict, which includes 14 seafarers, and on our part we remain in close touch with the community there so that we can do our best for their safety and well-being…” Jaiswal said.

“We have lost three people in Saudi Arabia so far”, he added.

The latest figures come as Indian diplomatic missions in the region continue to issue safety advisories and assist nationals affected by the conflict.

On October 16, the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia urged Indian citizens to exercise caution and seek shelter immediately in the event of an aerial attack.

“The Indian Community in Saudi Arabia is advised to take due precautions under the prevailing situation. In case of an aerial attack, immediately proceed to the nearest safe place (inside a building or an interior room away from windows), and refrain from filming, publishing, or sharing any information, photos, or videos related to the ongoing events,” the embassy said in a post on X.

Embassy officials have also been visiting hospitals where injured Indian nationals are receiving treatment, maintaining contact with their families and providing necessary assistance.

India has condemned attacks on civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, describing them as “unacceptable” and expressing support for the country’s sovereignty.

Earlier this month, Jaiswal called for the restoration of peace and stability in West Asia, emphasizing that Indian diplomatic officials in Saudi Arabia remain in regular communication with the Indian community.

The Indian government has continued to monitor developments in the region as concerns grow over the safety of its nationals, particularly seafarers and other workers exposed to the ongoing hostilities. (Source: IANS)
