Finance Minister Sitharaman Courts Global CEOs for Investment in India

New Delhi — Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a series of meetings with global business leaders in New York, highlighting new investment opportunities in India’s digital infrastructure, financial services and technology sectors.

During a meeting with Tillman Holdings Chairman and CEO Sanjeev Ahuja, Sitharaman said India’s policy framework, including recent budget measures, was designed to support investment in digital infrastructure.

She pointed to rapid growth in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital services and enterprise technology, saying those sectors were driving sustained demand for data centers, high-capacity networks and reliable power infrastructure.

Sitharaman said companies such as Tillman were well positioned to participate in the next phase of India’s digital infrastructure expansion. The discussions also covered opportunities to develop large-scale, resilient and sustainable digital infrastructure campuses.

In a separate meeting with Marsh Re CEO Dean Klisura and Devanshu Dhyani, head of strategy and corporate development, Sitharaman highlighted India’s large domestic market, skilled workforce, expanding infrastructure and digital capabilities.

She also pointed to India’s economic growth, citing real GDP expansion of 7.8% in the first quarter of fiscal 2026-27.

Marsh Re representatives said the company was interested in expanding its presence in India and highlighted the country’s regulatory environment. The company also said it was increasing its focus on GIFT City and expanding its engagement with the financial ecosystem there.

Sitharaman also met Alejandro Perez, group chief operating officer of BNY Mellon, for discussions on India’s economic outlook and opportunities for greater investment by global financial institutions.

The meeting covered India’s domestic demand, expanding financial markets and policy reforms, as well as opportunities linked to digital public infrastructure, Global Capability Centers and GIFT City’s International Financial Services Centre.

Perez said BNY Mellon viewed India as an important part of its global operations and growth strategy. He also highlighted the company’s work with Indian institutions, including the Indian Institutes of Technology, to develop skilled talent.

BNY Mellon’s India operations are increasingly serving as a global hub for innovation, technology and advanced capabilities, including artificial intelligence, according to the discussions.

Sitharaman invited BNY Mellon representatives to visit GIFT-IFSC and explore investment opportunities and financial products available at the center. (Source: IANS)
