Sensex Gains 384 Points, Nifty Nears 24,000 as Indian Stocks Rise for Fifth Straight Session

MUMBAI–Indian stock markets extended their winning streak to five consecutive sessions on Wednesday, with the Sensex climbing nearly 384 points and the Nifty approaching the 24,000 mark as investors increased their exposure to consumer goods, metals and real estate stocks.

The BSE Sensex rose 383.55 points, or 0.5%, to close at 77,301.40, while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 149.75 points, or 0.63%, to finish at 23,960.60.

The gains reflected continued investor confidence in domestic equities, although weakness in information technology stocks prevented a broader rally across all sectors.

Despite the sustained upward momentum, the Nifty remained below the psychologically important 24,000 level, which analysts identified as a key resistance point.

“A decisive and sustained breakout above this level could strengthen bullish momentum and pave the way for further upside,” analysts stated.

Market analysts identified the 23,750–23,700 range as an important near-term support level for the Nifty.

“On the downside, 23,750–23,700 now forms the immediate support zone. Holding above this range will be important to sustain the ongoing positive momentum,” market watchers noted.

Buying activity extended beyond large-cap stocks, with mid-cap and small-cap companies recording stronger gains than the benchmark indices.

The Nifty MidCap 100 index advanced 1.55%, while the Nifty SmallCap 100 surged 2%, indicating broader participation in the market’s upward movement.

Among individual Nifty 50 stocks, Bharat Electronics, Adani Enterprises and Titan Company were the leading gainers.

Sectoral performance was mixed, with consumer-oriented businesses, commodity producers and property-related companies attracting substantial investor interest.

The Nifty Media, Nifty Metal, Nifty FMCG and Nifty Realty indices were among the strongest performers, benefiting from sustained buying throughout the trading session.

In contrast, the Nifty IT index declined more than 1%, making technology stocks the weakest major sector of the day.

Analysts attributed the market’s positive momentum to several domestic factors, including expectations of possible tax relief in the upcoming Union Budget, corporate earnings that exceeded forecasts and continued consumer spending during the festive season.

“Domestically, optimism around possible tax relief maybe in the upcoming Union Budget, better-than-expected quarterly earnings and resilient festive consumption added momentum to the rally,” analysts noted.

The strength in consumer goods and real estate shares suggested that investors remained optimistic about domestic demand, while gains in metal stocks reflected renewed interest in commodity-related businesses.

Market observers said the continued rally indicated improving investor willingness to take risks, particularly in sectors tied to Indian economic activity.

However, analysts cautioned that the market’s near-term direction would depend on corporate earnings, movements in global crude oil prices and geopolitical developments.

“Going forward, earnings visibility and crude prices will remain key drivers; selective stock-specific positioning is advisable amid geopolitical uncertainty,” market watchers noted.

With the Nifty closing just below 24,000, investors will be watching whether the benchmark can break through that resistance level in upcoming sessions and sustain its five-day rally. (Source: IANS)
