AAPI Global Foundation Launched at Tampa Convention, Marking a New Era of Innovation, Service, and Global Impact

New initiative aims to transform physicians' ideas into measurable global impact through collaborative projects in healthcare, education, research, and humanitarian service.

TAMPA, Fla. — The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) marked a historic milestone during its 44th Annual Convention with the official launch of the AAPI Global Foundation, a transformative initiative designed to expand the organization’s mission beyond professional networking and advocacy into a global platform for innovation, education, humanitarian service, research, and measurable impact.

The Foundation was unveiled before hundreds of physicians, healthcare leaders, trustees, project directors, and delegates attending the convention, held July 2–5, 2026, in Tampa, Florida. The launch represents one of the most significant developments in AAPI’s more than four decades of service, providing physicians and healthcare professionals with a dedicated platform to develop innovative projects that address pressing healthcare and social challenges around the world.

A Vision Rooted in Unity

Opening the launch ceremony, AAPI leaders reflected on the organization’s remarkable journey and reaffirmed its commitment to leadership, collaboration, and service.

Dr. Amit Chakrabarty emphasized that the Foundation was born from a collective vision shared by the entire AAPI community rather than the efforts of any one individual. “Today is not about one individual. It is about a shared vision. It is about all of us working together to ensure that AAPI remains strong, relevant, and prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future,” he said.

His remarks underscored AAPI’s enduring strength as an organization built on unity, volunteerism, and a shared commitment to improving healthcare and serving communities.

A Platform Designed for Innovation

Introducing the Foundation, former AAPI Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Lokesh Edara described it as much more than a traditional nonprofit organization.

“A new chapter has been launched, the AAPI Global Foundation. It is not just an organization—it is a think tank, it is a university. You can do your own projects through AAPI Global Foundation, benefitting the cause and the people you want to serve,” Dr. Edara said.

He explained that the Foundation is intended to become an inclusive platform where physicians, researchers, educators, entrepreneurs, students, and innovators can collaborate to develop practical solutions that create lasting impact in healthcare and society.

Turning Vision into Action

Chairman of the AAPI Global Foundation Dr. Jagdish Gupta formally introduced the Foundation’s mission while demonstrating his own commitment with a personal donation of $100,000 toward cancer prevention initiatives.

Dr. Gupta said the Foundation was created with a complementary but distinct purpose within the broader AAPI family.

“AAPI Global Foundation has been created with a complementary and unique purpose. We are a project-oriented foundation dedicated to identifying, developing, and advancing innovative initiatives that can create meaningful and measurable impact throughout the globe,” he said.

He noted that the Foundation would bridge the gap between innovative ideas and real-world implementation, allowing members to transform concepts into sustainable programs that benefit communities worldwide.

“Today is not simply the launch of another organization. It is the beginning of a platform for innovation, partnership, and purposeful action,” Dr. Gupta added.

Expanding AAPI’s Legacy of Service

Dr. Gupta said the new Foundation complements AAPI’s existing service initiatives while creating an innovation engine for future-focused projects.

He highlighted the distinct but interconnected roles of AAPI’s three major service organizations. The AAPI Charitable Foundation focuses on delivering healthcare to underserved and vulnerable populations. The AAPI India Foundation strengthens partnerships with India and supports initiatives such as the Global Healthcare Summit. The newly launched AAPI Global Foundation will concentrate on identifying, developing, and scaling innovative projects capable of delivering measurable outcomes across the globe.

Together, these initiatives provide AAPI with a comprehensive framework for addressing healthcare challenges at the local, national, and international levels.

Flagship Projects Unveiled

One of the highlights of the Foundation’s launch was the introduction of its inaugural portfolio of physician-led projects, each designed to address important public health and educational needs while delivering measurable results.

Among the initiatives announced were a Cancer Prevention Initiative featuring Mobile Mammography, Cervical Cancer Screening, and an HPV Vaccination Drive in the Delhi region led by Dr. Jagdish Gupta; Empowering Children Through Education led by Dr. Sunil Kaza; a Mammography Screening Program in Rural Telangana led by Dr. Satheesh Kathula; CPR and Emergency Medicine Training in Tamil Nadu led by Dr. Arunachalam Einstei; a Stem Cell Donation and Drug-Free India Campaign led by Dr. Sashi Kuppala; HPV Vaccination and Limb Donation Advocacy led by Dr. Meher Medavaram; and GAIMS India (Global Association of International Medical Students), led by Abhishek Kashyap.

Collectively, the projects reflect the Foundation’s commitment to advancing preventive medicine, education, emergency preparedness, public health awareness, and community engagement through innovative physician-led initiatives.

Inspiring Service Beyond the Clinic

A video presentation during the launch encouraged attendees to think beyond the traditional boundaries of medical practice and consider the broader influence physicians can have on society.

The presentation challenged participants with questions such as, “What if your knowledge could save a life beyond the walls of a hospital? What if your experience could inspire the next generation? What if one idea, one project, or one act of service could create a ripple that reaches thousands?”

The message resonated with delegates, reinforcing the belief that physicians possess a unique ability not only to heal patients but also to mentor future leaders, promote prevention, and drive meaningful social change.

A Call for Collaboration

In his closing remarks, Dr. Gupta thanked Dr. Amit Chakrabarty, Dr. Meher Medavaram, the AAPI Board of Trustees, project leaders, and members for their continued support and dedication.

He called on physicians across the organization to actively participate in the Foundation’s mission, saying, “Together let us create projects that inspire, programs that endure, and a legacy that reflects the very best of our spirit of service.”

His appeal captured the Foundation’s central goal of transforming the collective expertise and goodwill of AAPI members into sustainable initiatives with lasting global impact.

A New Chapter for AAPI

With its official launch in Tampa, the AAPI Global Foundation begins a new chapter in the organization’s history, positioning itself as a catalyst for innovation, education, humanitarian service, and international collaboration.

By bringing together physicians, educators, researchers, entrepreneurs, students, and community leaders, the Foundation seeks to develop practical solutions to some of the world’s most pressing healthcare and social challenges while empowering members to lead projects that extend far beyond the walls of hospitals and clinics.

Summing up the significance of the Foundation’s launch, AAPI President Dr. Meher Medavaram said the initiative represents an opportunity to expand the physician’s role from healing to prevention, education, and advocacy.

“As physicians, we are entrusted with the privilege of healing. Today, we are expanding that responsibility to include prevention, education, and advocacy—ensuring that our knowledge and compassion reach far beyond the walls of our practices. Through the AAPI Global Foundation, we have an opportunity to transform prevention into action, awareness into advocacy, and compassion into lasting impact for generations to come.”

More than simply creating another organization, the AAPI Global Foundation represents a bold movement that empowers healthcare professionals to innovate with purpose, lead with compassion, and build a lasting legacy of service for communities around the world.
