Nora Fatehi to Appear Before NCW in ‘Sarke Chunar’ Song Controversy

NEW DELHI — Actor Nora Fatehi is scheduled to appear before the National Commission for Women on May 7 as part of its proceedings into the controversy over the song “Sarke Chunar.”

The commission has set the hearing for 11:30 a.m. as it examines allegations that the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” contains vulgar content and indecent representation of women.

The NCW had earlier taken suo motu cognizance of the matter, citing concerns over sexually suggestive content and its possible impact on public decency and minors.

Fatehi had previously been unable to attend a scheduled hearing because she was abroad and requested a new date to present her side. Her appearance is expected to be an important step as the commission works to conclude its proceedings.

The controversy has already brought actor Sanjay Dutt before the NCW. Dutt submitted a written apology and expressed regret for any unintended harm caused. As part of corrective steps, he committed to sponsoring the education of 50 tribal girls and assured the commission that future projects associated with him would undergo stricter legal due diligence to ensure the dignified portrayal of women and children.

The issue gained attention soon after the song’s release, with critics and social media users calling its lyrics and choreography inappropriate. Singer Armaan Malik described the writing as a “new low,” while legal complaints sought a ban on the track. Amid growing pressure, the makers reportedly removed the song from YouTube.

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has taken a firm position on the matter, saying the dignity of women cannot be compromised in the name of creativity. During earlier hearings, the commission questioned those involved about intent, accountability and awareness, and directed them to ensure similar lapses are not repeated.

The song features Fatehi and Dutt and is connected to the film “KD: The Devil.” The case continues to draw attention as authorities examine the responsibilities of artists and creators in producing socially responsible content. (Source: IANS)
