Pankaj Tripathi credits Bihar upbringing for shaping his personality

MUMBAI — Actor Pankaj Tripathi said his upbringing in Bihar continues to shape his personality, describing his “simplicity, struggle, and sensitivity” as deeply rooted in his home state.

Tripathi made the remarks while attending Bihar Diwas celebrations at the Embassy of India in Tokyo, where he was joined by his family.

“The simplicity, struggle, and sensitivity that come from the soil of Bihar form the foundation of my identity,” he said.

“But beyond that, Bihar is also a feeling, one that lives within you no matter where you go in the world. Standing here in Tokyo today, surrounded by people who carry Bihar in their hearts, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride and belonging.”

The event was attended by India’s Ambassador to Japan, Nagma Mohamed Mallick, who highlighted Bihar’s historical significance and its growing global presence.

Tripathi said what makes Bihar special is not just its history but its people and their resilience.

“Today, Biharis across the world are making a mark through their hard work, talent, and integrity. Whether it’s in arts, academics, business, or public service, they are quietly and consistently contributing to the global narrative of India,” he said.

He added that events like Bihar Diwas celebrations abroad help reconnect people with their roots.

“They remind us of where we come from. They reconnect us with our roots, our values, and our shared cultural memory. For me personally, it’s always an emotional moment because it takes me back to my journey, my upbringing, and everything that has shaped me as a person and an artist,” he said.

“Being here with my family makes it even more meaningful, because it’s not just about celebrating a state, it’s about passing on that pride and connection to the next generation.”

Tripathi said staying connected to one’s roots is essential even as people move forward globally.

“I truly believe that as we move forward globally, staying connected to our roots gives us strength and clarity. Bihar’s story is one of legacy, learning, and limitless potential and I feel honored to be a small part of that story,” he said.

The event, organized with support from the Bihar and Jharkhand Association’s Japan chapter, featured traditional music, dance, and cuisine, while also showcasing the state’s art, culture, and opportunities in trade, tourism, and investment. (Source: IANS)
