India, US Agree to Strengthen Energy Security Partnership
New Delhi — India and the United States have agreed to strengthen cooperation under the U.S.-India Energy Security Partnership, with a focus on clean energy, resilient infrastructure and emerging technologies, according to a statement issued Wednesday by India’s Ministry of Power.
Union Power Minister Manohar Lal and U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright reaffirmed the priorities during a bilateral meeting in Houston on the sidelines of the G20 Energy Abundance Ministerial Meeting.
Manohar Lal also discussed India’s plans to develop power infrastructure for artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and data centers, along with New Delhi’s roadmap for expanding nuclear energy.
The minister also met Corey Hogan, Parliamentary Secretary to Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, to explore cooperation in energy efficiency, low-emission technologies and offshore exploration under the Samundra Manthan scheme.
He invited Canadian companies to participate in India’s expanding exploration and production sector and deepen their involvement in emerging energy technologies.
The minister reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening energy security through diversification of energy sources, expansion of clean and reliable baseload capacity and faster adoption of emerging technologies.
He said India would continue to pursue a balanced, future-ready energy strategy while deepening international partnerships to provide secure, sustainable and affordable energy and contribute to global energy stability.
Manohar Lal also participated in G20 Energy Abundance Working Group meetings in Houston, where he highlighted India’s progress in building a secure and resilient energy system.
He cited achievements including 552 GW of installed capacity, a non-fossil share exceeding 50 percent and advances in solar power, energy storage, nuclear energy and clean cooking access.
The minister also emphasized India’s commitment to technology-neutral and inclusive energy pathways and international cooperation through the International Solar Alliance, One Sun One World One Grid and the Global Biofuels Alliance.
He outlined reforms aimed at streamlining approvals and improving regulatory predictability through digital platforms including the National Single Window System, PARIVESH and PM Gati Shakti.
Manohar Lal said efficient permitting is essential for timely infrastructure development and called for greater G20 cooperation on capacity building and regulatory modernization, according to the ministry statement. (Source: IANS)
