Washington– U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has sought to calm speculation over President Donald Trump’s health, assuring Americans that the 79-year-old leader is in “good shape” and fully capable of serving out his term, while also emphasizing that he is prepared to take charge if any “terrible tragedy” were to occur.

“The President is in incredibly good health… He’s got incredible energy. I feel very confident the president of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people,” Vance said in an interview with USA Today, excerpts of which were carried by NDTV.

The Vice President, 41, recalled feeling “overwhelmed” by the “grandeur” and “incredible history” of the Oval Office when he first entered it in January. His remarks came amid persistent questions about Trump’s health, fueled by recent appearances in which the President was seen with a large bruise on his hand during talks with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, as well as observations about swollen ankles, a stiff gait, and occasional verbal mix-ups.

At 78 years and seven months when he assumed office in January, Trump became the oldest U.S. president to take the oath, edging out Joe Biden, who was 78 years and two months old when inaugurated in 2021.

Vance, the third-youngest Vice President in U.S. history, stressed that he is ready to step up if required. “If, God forbid, there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days,” he told the paper.

Trump has publicly praised Vance, calling him his “most likely” successor in the Make America Great Again movement. But the Vice President has brushed aside speculation about his political future, including talk of a 2028 run. (Source: IANS)
