New Delhi– External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reaffirmed on Thursday that India will only engage with Pakistan on matters related to terrorism, asserting that no other dialogue is on the table.

Speaking after inaugurating the Embassy of Honduras in New Delhi, Jaishankar highlighted the success of Operation Sindoor and reiterated that India’s objectives—specifically the destruction of terrorist infrastructure—were achieved.

“The Prime Minister has made it very clear: the only talks with Pakistan will be about terrorism,” Jaishankar told reporters. “Pakistan has a list of terrorists who must be handed over. They must dismantle the terrorist infrastructure. They know what they need to do. We’re ready to talk—about terrorism. That’s the only conversation that’s feasible.”

He pointed to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, as a pivotal moment. The Resistance Front (TRF), an affiliate of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the killings. Jaishankar noted the widespread international condemnation and support that followed.

“We received strong international backing. Numerous leaders reached out to the Prime Minister and myself. The UN Security Council adopted a resolution clearly calling for accountability. On May 7, we acted decisively through Operation Sindoor,” he said.

Addressing the subsequent ceasefire, Jaishankar clarified that India had no intention of targeting Pakistan’s military, and had communicated as much before the operation began.

“We stated upfront that our operation was aimed at terrorist infrastructure, not the military. Pakistan was advised to stay out of it. They didn’t listen and suffered heavy losses. Satellite images released today clearly show the extent of damage inflicted by us versus the negligible damage on our side. The facts speak for themselves regarding who sought the ceasefire,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh echoed a firm stance during a visit to Srinagar. Speaking to troops at the Badami Bagh Cantonment, the headquarters of the Army’s 15 Corps, Singh warned that India’s adherence to the ceasefire agreement hinges on the absence of terrorist attacks.

“Operation Sindoor is undoubtedly the largest anti-terror operation ever carried out by India. We hit them hard in response to their attempt to strike us,” Singh said. He also suggested that Pakistan’s nuclear program should be placed under international oversight. (Source: IANS)
