BOSTON—When it comes to making traditional Punjabi Bhangra dance a household name in Boston and beyond, the credit goes to Rohit Bhambi. Now, his dream has become a reality. His Boston Bhangra competition has gone international, where top Bhangra teams participate every year.

In an exclusive video interview with Dreamcatchers, Bhambi, co-founder of Boston Bhangra along with his brother, talks about how he got interested in Bhangra, his inspiration and yes, sibling rivalry. Bhangra has also given a lot to Bhambi: not only his passion but also his wife whom he met at a Bhangra competition.

After successfully hosting the 13th annual Boston Bhangra Competition on Nov. 19 at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre that was packed with well over 2,200 people, Bhambi is bringing 9th annual South Asian Showdown on Feb. 4 in at the John Hancock Hall in Boston. This competition will present fusion and Hindi film teams from across the United States.

The concept of Showdown is to showcase the best Fusion and Hindi-Film teams on one stage.  Bollywood represents the Mumbai movie industry and the story lines that come with it.  South Asian fusion brings all styles of dance together on one stage to showcase the talents of South Asian dancers.
