Pranav Adani Praises Praggnanandhaa After Second Win Over Carlsen at Norway Chess

AHMEDABAD, India — Pranav Adani, director of Adani Enterprises Ltd., praised Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa after he defeated world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen for the second time at Norway Chess 2026, calling the achievement rare and a sign of the young player’s growing confidence.
Praggnanandhaa, 20, continued his strong run in the tournament with a composed victory over Carlsen in Round 8, this time playing with the black pieces. He had earlier defeated the Norwegian star with white in the same event.
Norway Chess is widely regarded as one of the world’s strongest chess tournaments, featuring several of the highest-ranked players in the game.
With the latest result, Praggnanandhaa became only the second Indian after Viswanathan Anand to record two classical wins over Carlsen in the same year. The victory against the five-time world champion further strengthens Praggnanandhaa’s standing on the global chess stage and reflects the continued rise of Indian chess.
“Praggnanandhaa’s performance at Norway Chess 2026 has been truly exceptional. Defeating Magnus Carlsen twice in the same tournament is a rare achievement and reflects the confidence, maturity and competitive spirit he brings to the board. He continues to inspire a new generation of Indian players and demonstrates the growing strength of Indian chess on the global stage. We congratulate him on this remarkable milestone and wish him success in the final rounds,” Adani said.
Praggnanandhaa is supported by Adani Sportsline’s “Garv Hai” initiative, which provides emerging Indian athletes with financial assistance, access to advanced training and competitive exposure to help them compete internationally.
With two rounds remaining before the tournament ends June 6, Praggnanandhaa is third in the standings with 12 points. He is scheduled to face reigning world champion Gukesh D next before playing Vincent Keymer in the final round as he seeks to close out the tournament with a title. (Source: IANS)
