BOSTON–More than 100 Northeastern University community members gathered Thursday on Centennial Common for a rally to show support for citizens of the seven countries directly affected by President Donald Trump’s executive order on immigration.
At the rally, which was held in solidarity with other “Academics United” rallies nationwide, speakers decried the travel ban, shared personal stories, highlighted the academic achievements of those impacted, and encouraged attendees to educate others about the issue.
Provost James C. Bean reaffirmed Northeastern’s commitment to working with those affected by the order and underscored how the university is responding, which includes joining other Massachusetts universities in filing an amicus brief.
“I can assure you that Northeastern considers all of you as important a member of this community as anyone else,” Bean said. “You are here because we want you here and it’s important that you are here.”
