Moksha Spa Founder Kalpana (Jodi) Chatterjee Passes Away at 63

BOSTON—Kalpana (Jodi) Chatterjee, a compassionate person known for quietly helping people in need and a fixture at Boston community events, and the founder of the posh Moksha Spa & Wellness Center in Haverhill and Methuen, MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. She had a long battle with throat cancer. She was 63.

A resident of North Andover, MA, Ms. Chatterjee is survived by her husband, Dr. Sudarshan Chatterjee, her two sons: Animesh and Shantanu. During her final moments at the hospital, her husband, both sons and her sister, Dipti Roy, were present.

Ms. Chatterjee came to the United States from India in 1979, and prior to starting her own business, Moksha Spa & Wellness Center, she managed her husband’s medical practice.

Her inspiration for offering Moksha Spa & Wellness services was the result of her growing up in a holistic atmosphere in India. In an interview with the Boston Globe, Ms. Chatterjee once said: “My father was a doctor who practiced homeopathy, using herbs to treat skin diseases, for the most part. The results amazed me, and I told myself that this was a line of work I wanted to get into.”

Ms. Chatterjee received a master’s degree in English in India and, after coming to the United States, took psychology and English courses at Merrimack College in North Andover and psychology and business administration courses at Northeastern University in Boston, according to the Boston Globe.

Ms. Chatterjee was RYT certified trained in Rishikesh India by Shivananda Yoga Center and Core Power Yoga In Irvine, CA. She believed that personal and creative expression is the key to being happy and free from fears. She taught Vinyasa flow in a unique dance style with music in a heated room at her spa. Her classes are consisted of Pranayam breathing, poses for beginners and advanced students and mindful meditation.

Funeral services (open to friend and family) will be held on Sunday, Sept. 26 at Conte Funeral Home located at 17 Third Street, North Andover, MA 01845:

9:00 am: Wake and Meet Her

10:00 am-11:00 am: Pooja.

Funeral services will be followed by a drive to a cremation services center located at Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home and Cremation Services at 42 Main Street, Salam, NH.
