BURLINGTON, MA– Meghdhanush, an initiative to promote Gujarati language and performing arts, is hosting its annual Musical Magical Mareez event on July 14th at the Academy of Creative Arts in Burlington, MA.
The event will begin at 7:00 pm and feature three established Gujarati writers: Jay Vasavada, Shobhit Desai and Chandrakant (Chandu) Shah along with many local poets and singers.
“This will be another blockbuster entertainer with extremely popular speaker Jay Vasavada for the first time in the Boston area. A must attend event for all Gujaratis,” says Mr. Shah, a member of Meghdanush and event organizer.
This year’s most anticipated guests, Vasavada, Desai and Shah are all prominent poets and thoughtful writers themselves. Together, they have an astonishing total of over 10,000 shows performed between the three.
Vasavada is a writer, orator, and columnist coming from Rajkot, India who has several published works including “spectrometer” and “anavrut,” which are two columns published in the Gujarat Samachar. His columns receive roughly 7 million daily readers and he has accumulated over 40,000+ dedicated followers on facebook.
Desai, who is currently based in Mumbai, is a remarkable modern Gazalkar in Gujarati and possesses extensive knowledge in Gujarati literature. He has performed several one-man shows including an homage to the legendary Gujarati poets Ramesh Parekh and Mareez. He has also written and performed in a Hindi one-man show on the life and writings of Ghalib.
Shah, also known as Chandu, is a Boston based Gujarati poet, playwright, writer, and producer. He is credited on seven different notable films and has written several Gujarati musicals. His work is known to capture the essence of the Indian diaspora and his second book “Blue Jeans,” explores everything from art and politics to existential and cultural questions through a contemporary lens.
Accompanying these three artists are local poets: Pramod Thaker, Vikas Desai, Sejal Kothari, Disha Jogi, Pulkit Shah and Tanvi Shah. Celebrated Boston-based singers who will also be performing are Jigna Shah, Ashutosh Patel and Shraddha Agrawal.
