LEXINGTON, MA—Local poetess and singer Kiran Nath hosted an evening of music and poetry on Sunday at the Cary Hall Auditorium in Lexington, MA, and released her new book of poetry “Meharbaan.”

The Shaam-e-Ghazal show was organized by the Ghazal Fans Club and was opened by Syed Ali Rizvi and emceed by Kumkum Pareek Malik.

Ms. Nath performed renditions of her own ghazals ‘Ab Kya Karoon Mere Meherbaan’ and ‘Kaise Keh Doon Tum Kya Ho Mere’. She also paid touching tributes to Faiyaz Hashmi and Hafeez Hoshiarpuri.

All other artists performed Ms. Nath’s writings and compositions. Kunal Nath’s soulful ‘Deewana Karengi Tumhaari Yeh Baatein’, Shameek Nath’s stirring ‘Chaahat Se Badhkar Tumhein Chaahein’, and Mitali Wahidi’s divine ‘Phir Aankh Jami Hai Raste Par’ were widely appreciated.

Pradeep Shukla’s classically tinged ‘Phir Phool Khila Barsaat Aayee’ was delightful. The audience was also treated to an energetic rendition of Ms. Nath’s qawwali ‘ Yeh Dil Se Dil Ki Baat Hai’.

Harish Dang and Sadia Chaghtai recited Ms. Nath’s poetry. Ms. Nath was accompanied by a group of musicians: Rajesh Pai on Tabla, William Lenderking on Guitar, M Rama Rao on Harmonium, and Dipu Deshmukh on Esraj/Sarod.

The event also included the release of Ms. Nath’s new collection of poetry ‘Meherbaan’. The book was officially launched by chief guests Jaideep Chola (Consul, Consulate General of India, New York) and Pralhad KC (Consul General of Nepal). It is a compilation of her new poems in Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi across the ghazal, thumri, and folk genres.
