BENGALURU– Virat Kohli added another historic milestone to his illustrious Indian Premier League (IPL) career on Thursday, becoming the first player to smash 1,000 boundaries in the tournament’s history. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) icon, who has featured in all 18 IPL seasons, reached the landmark during Match 24 of IPL 2025 against the Delhi Capitals at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Kohli’s milestone moment came in the fourth over of RCB’s innings when he launched Delhi skipper Axar Patel for a towering six over long-on. With that shot, Kohli brought his career tally to a staggering 1,000 boundaries — comprising 721 fours and 279 sixes.

He continues to lead the all-time list for most fours in the IPL and ranks third in sixes, behind only Chris Gayle (357) and Rohit Sharma (282). Kohli is also on the verge of another major milestone: with 99 half-centuries in T20s, he is just one fifty away from becoming the second batter in the format’s history to record 100, trailing only David Warner.

Despite Kohli’s record-setting feat, it was KL Rahul who stole the show with a sublime, unbeaten 93 off 53 balls, powering Delhi Capitals to a commanding six-wicket victory. Returning to his hometown, Rahul delivered a masterclass in poise and precision, especially after DC slipped to 58/4 in a tricky chase of 164.

Earlier, RCB posted 163/7 after a strong start from Phil Salt and Kohli. But Delhi’s spin duo, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, tightened the screws during the middle overs to restrict the flow of runs. On a pitch that played slightly slow, the total seemed defendable — until Rahul took control.

Partnering with Tristan Stubbs, who chipped in with an unbeaten 38 off 23 balls, Rahul stitched together a record-breaking 111-run partnership for the fifth wicket — the highest for Delhi Capitals in that position. His innings featured seven boundaries and six towering sixes, sealing the win in just 17.5 overs with 13 balls to spare. (Source: IANS)
