INDIA New England 2010 Wedding Expo

INDIA New England held its first Wedding Expo on Sunday, March 7, at the Taj Boston hotel in Boston.

The event drew a capacity crowd of 350 people, who were treated to the sounds of Boston-area band House of Bangalore, food prepared by the Taj Boston chefs and a bridal fashion show created by local designer Shelley Chhabra of the Chhabra Bridal Wear boutique in Cambridge, Mass.

The event was documented by Billerica, Mass.-based Timeless Lens Photography, while wedding planner and decorator Shobha Shastry of Northborough, Mass.-based Alankar turned the exhibition hall into a visual masterpiece with wedding decorations.

Shastry also was one of several presenters of wedding workshops throughout the day, giving a presentation on “Planning the Perfect Wedding.” In addition, Seshu Badrinath of Avon., Conn.-based Seshu Photography spoke on the topic of the “Documentary Approach to Wedding Photography,” and Amit Parwani of Kay Pee Jewelers in Burlington, Mass., tackled the topic of “Engagement & Wedding Jewelery.” Mona Kumar, a member of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts’ Fashion Council, spoke on the topic of “Bridal Attire & Fashion,” while Salvatore DeGeorge of the Taj Boston hotel and Tim Needham of the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, Conn., gave a presentation on “Selecting a Wedding Venue.”

Genevieve Levin of Remarkable Blackbird in Gray, Maine, provided henna/mehndi body art to many of the event attendees.

In addition to a grand prize raffle of use of a six-day state at a Taj hotels honeymoon suite, event gold sponsor Qatar Airways provided two airline tickets to a luck raffle winner.
