BURLINGTON, MA– Dr. Kiran Lulla, MD will discuss reducing maladaptive behavior through seeking emotional health at the 9th annual Health, Fitness, and Wellness Expo at the Burlington Marriott in Burlington, MA on August 13th, 2023.

“There is a striking difference in people seeking mental health services in this part of the world. The South Asian community then and even now is still not convinced about seeking services as soon as there is an emotionally challenging problem affecting them or their immediate loved ones,” says Dr. Lulla, Medical Director at Arbor Counseling and Attending Psychiatrist at Brainsway Achieve TMS.

The event is free for all attendees, but you must pre-register. To register for free, please click here.

Dr. Lulla began training as a psychiatrist in Mumbai in the early 90’s and began to notice the stigma, lack of education, and spiritual beliefs that prevented people from seeking mental health openly.

Dr. Lulla currently operates her own private practice in Wellesley, MA, helping children, adolescents, and young adults navigate life and its large transitions while specializing in depression, anxiety, and medication management. She received her M.D. in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from the University of Bombay and MBA from the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst.

Dr. Lulla is an expert in child and adolescent psychiatry and did a 2 year fellowship at the New England Medical Center where she was also honored as Chief Resident. Her deep understanding of psychiatry earned her a teaching position at Tufts New England Medical center which blossomed into her current position as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry where she inspires and educates a new generation of psychiatrists.

With her extensive knowledge and experience in dealing with mental and emotional well-being, Dr. Lulla offers a reputable discussion on mental health at this year’s Health Expo and aims to break down the cultural barriers that limit South Asians from seeking help.

“Numbers of anxiety disorders, depressive and substance use disorders at least in reported cases have increased by 25% globally as reported for the first year of the pandemic alone. Hypertension, cancers, thyroid and cardiac disease cases have gone up.  We are already slow to seek help for those illnesses and even slower to deal with the emotional baggage that comes with these chronic conditions,” said Dr. Lulla.

As in the past, Health Expo this year will focus on modern medicine, yoga, meditation, alternative medicine, physical fitness, beauty, anti-aging, and from onsite exercise training to keeping fit with Bollywood dancing and numerous workshops.

The expo brings together the region’s top health and wellness providers, top speakers and fun workshops to promote life-long health, fitness and wellness in our community. From free medical screenings to knowledgeable speakers to intensive yoga workshops, expo brings the best options for a lifetime of health for the New England community.
