New Delhi– Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s forceful warning to terrorists and their backers in the wake of the recent Pahalgam attack, residents of Delhi voiced strong support for even tougher action, calling for military strikes surpassing the scale of Balakot and Uri.

Addressing a massive gathering in Madhubani, Bihar, on National Panchayati Raj Day, Prime Minister Modi issued a resounding message to the perpetrators of terrorism, promising to “identify, trace, and punish” them and pursue them to the “ends of the Earth.”

“Today, from the soil of Bihar, I want to tell the entire world—India will identify, trace, and punish every terrorist and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the Earth. India’s spirit will not be broken by terrorism. It will not go unpunished. Every effort will be made to ensure justice. The entire nation stands united in this resolve, and every believer in humanity stands with us,” Modi declared.

The Prime Minister’s remarks followed the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians. In response, the Indian government has enacted several decisive measures against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Integrated Check Post at the Attari border, and scaling back diplomatic presence in both nations’ embassies.

IANS spoke with Delhi residents to gauge public reaction to the Prime Minister’s speech, and many expressed the need for stronger military action.

“I think it’s time to go beyond what we did in Balakot and Uri,” said one resident. “Pakistan won’t change with limited strikes. It’s good that strong measures are being taken, but more is needed. Unless we directly target the Pakistani army, these attacks will continue. We admire Israel for its decisive actions—India, with over 1.5 billion people, should act with the same resolve.”

Another local added, “PM Modi has always sent a strong message, but this time we’ll see how far it goes. Diplomatic steps are necessary, but they won’t be enough on their own. We need concrete military action to break the back of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. This infiltration has been going on for 35 years—it’s time for impactful steps, not just symbolic ones.”

One Delhi resident welcomed the government’s moves but emphasized the need to address domestic enablers of terrorism. “For the past 14 years, new terror groups keep emerging. Cutting water supplies and diplomatic ties are good steps, but the ground reality matters more. We also need to confront those within our own borders who support or promote this hatred.”

Expressing confidence in Modi’s leadership, another resident said, “Looking at the Prime Minister’s record, I have no doubt about his intentions. When he commits to something, he delivers. This time, we need a direct surgical strike—not just against terrorists, but also against their supporters and funders. I’m glad action is being taken, but true peace will only come when justice is served and those behind these attacks are brought to their knees.”

The Pahalgam attack has ignited public demand for India to intensify its response, with many urging the government to move beyond diplomatic measures and retaliate militarily against those responsible for sponsoring terrorism across the border. (Source: IANS)
