Chief of Civil Rights Genevieve Nadeau Will be the Guest of Honor at Woman of the Year Awards Gala

BOSTON, MA–Genevieve Nadeau, Chief of the Civil Rights Division in the Office of Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, will the Guest of Honor at the 15th annual Woman of the Year Awards Gala this year on May 26 at Burlington Marriott Hotel in Burlington, MA.

Ms. Nadeau joined the office in 2012 as an Assistant Attorney General and later served as Deputy Chief of the Civil Rights Division before becoming the Chief in July 2016.  She oversees a variety of civil rights initiatives and enforcement matters, on topics including fair housing and employment, equal access to public accommodations, health care, and education, and consumer protections for some of the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable populations.

Ms. Nadeau has authored a number of briefs for the U.S. Courts of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States on behalf of the Commonwealth, including briefs addressing human trafficking, marriage equality, race-conscious college admissions, and fair housing.  Most recently, Ms. Nadeau took a lead role on behalf of the AG’s Office in helping to secure passage of An Act to Establish Pay Equity in 2016, and in representing the Commonwealth in its challenge to the Trump Administration’s Executive Orders on immigration and refugees.

Before joining the AG’s Office, Ms. Nadeau practiced labor and employment law in both the private and public sectors.  She is a graduate of Stanford Law School and UMass Amherst.
