A.R. Rahman Releases Soundtrack for First Arabic Film ‘Baab’

Mumbai — Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman has released the soundtrack for “Baab,” marking his first collaboration on an Arabic-language film.

Directed by Nayla Al Khaja, “Baab” is a psychological fantasy thriller that has received critical acclaim. Its soundtrack was released Friday on major streaming platforms through Rahman’s KM Musiq label and is being distributed worldwide by Divo.

The album features 10 original compositions by Rahman.

“What drew me to Baab was its emotional complexity and the unique world Nayla had created,” Rahman said.

“To stay authentic to the film, we explored a different soundscape, and it was a rewarding creative journey and a meaningful first step into Arabic cinema for me,” he added.

The film stars Shaimaa El Fadul as Wahida, Huda Alghanem as Umi Fatma, Meera Almidfa as Amal, Mansoor Alnoamani as Tariq, Sabiha Majgaonkar as Surooji and Elham Al Marzooqi as Lulwa.

“Baab” follows Wahida as she discovers cassette tapes hidden behind a green door and begins uncovering the truth about the death of her twin sister.

The technical team includes cinematographer Rogier Stoffers and editor Sebastian Funke.

Rahman has composed music for films around the world during a career spanning about three decades. His international credits include the Academy Award-winning “Slumdog Millionaire,” “127 Hours,” “Couples Retreat,” the Chinese epic “Warriors of Heaven and Earth” and “Pelé: Birth of a Legend.”

After working on projects across Hollywood, Asia and Europe, Rahman has now expanded into Arabic cinema with “Baab.” (Source: IANS)
