Miles to go, but truly grateful: Priyanka
Mumbai– Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who has made her mark in Hollywood, feels happy to find her name in Variety 500 most influential business leaders list. She says that she has miles to go but is grateful for “every step we take”.
The “Quantico” actress on Thursday took to her Instagram account and thanked Variety for considering her as a influential personality once again.
She wrote: “Big thanks to Variety for including me in your ‘variety500’ for the second year in a row.”
Also, she expressed her gratitude to her team for always supporting and helping her at each step.
“What makes this one extra special is the little name right above mine, Purple Pebble Pictures, stories are at the heart of everything we do, regardless of genre or language, and it is a wonderful feeling to know we are on the right path.
“This would not be possible without my team, and most importantly, my incredible partner and co-founder, Madhumalati. Feels like miles to go, but truly grateful for every step we take,” added Priyanka.
Priyanka is currently preparing for Shonali Bose’s biographical drama film “The Sky Is Pink”.
Renee took inspiration from Vidya, Kareena’s films
Mumbai– Actress Renee Dhyani says she took inspiration from actresses Vidya Balan and Kareena Kapoors movies “Begum Jaan” and “Chameli” to play a bold role.
Renee plays a sex worker in Zee TV’s new show “Yeh Teri Galiyaan”, a story of two children who are raised in Kolkata’s red-light district of Sonagachi.
“The name of my character is Beauty and as the name suggests, she is a good-looking girl with various shades of grey, who resides in the red-light district of Kolkata,” Renee said in a statement.
“For the first time, I am playing such a bold role which would be pivotal in delivering the show’s core message. Therefore, I did an in-depth research on the community which would help me portray my character convincingly.
“To adapt the language and gestures of the character, my biggest inspiration came from watching Vidya Balan and Kareena Kapoor’s popular movies ‘Begum Jaan’ and ‘Chameli’. I tried to borrow some nuances from these two films,” she added.
Produced by Cinevistaas, the show also features actors like Manish Goplani, Vrushika Mehta, Lavin Gothi, Shubhangi Latkar, Anandi Tripathi and Aakanksha Sareen.
Gulshan Kumar’s biopic gets release date
Mumbai– Aamir Khan and T-Series will release the biopic on T-Series’ founder Gulshan Kumar on Christmas 2019.
T-Series on Thursday took to their official Twitter account to announce the release date.
“Aamir Khan Production and T-Series are happy to announce Christmas 2019 as the release date for the biopic on Gulshan Kumar, written and directed by Subhash Kapoor. Filming to begin early next year,” the tweet reads.
The biopic will be titled “Moghul” and depicts the story of the late singer Gulshan Kumar.
Aamir’s production house will also release the Hindi version of the film “Vishwaroopam 2”.
Rajesh Tailang to play lawyer in ‘Mirzapur’
Mumba– Actor Rajesh Tailang, who played an advocate in the film “Haseena Parkar”, will now be seen as a criminal lawyer in the web series “Mirzapur”.
“I am playing Ramakant Panday. He is a criminal lawyer. He takes cases in hand that nobody dares to take and this often lands him in trouble. But he is not afraid to fight for the truth. In a way, he is the only positive character in the series,” Rajesh said in a statement.
He is playing the on-screen father of actors Ali Fazal and Vikrant Massey.
Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar serve as the executive producers of the Amazon Prime Video’s project created by Karan Anshuman and Puneet Krishna and directed by Gurmmeet Singh.
In the digital space, Rajesh also has Anil Kapoor‘s “Selection Day”, which is a Netflix original series.
“I play the lead in this series,” he said.
Mani Ratnam came for check-up, not admitted: Apollo Hospital
Chennai– Noted movie director Mani Ratnam visited Apollo Hospital here for a check-up, after complaining of chest pain, but is in fine condition, said a hospital official.
“He had come to the hospital for a check-up. His condition is fine. He has not been admitted,” the hospital official told IANS.
Ratnam had complained of chest pain, the official added.
RGV, Madhu Mantena team up for web series ‘D-Company’
Mumbai– Director Ram Gopal Varma has joined hands with filmmaker Madhu Mantena for a web-series “D-Company”.
Varma said “only” an web series can do justice to the kind of material he has collected over two decades.
Varma tweeted on Twitter: “Me and Madhu Mantena team up for a web series ‘D Company’, a chronicle of the Mumbai underworld.
“Starting from rise of Dawood Ibrahim in early 1980’s and initiation of ‘D Company’ — story will be till end of the tremendous gang wars that started post 93 blasts.”
The “Sarkar” director said: “I have been collecting data since nearly 20 years actually from even before I made ‘Satya’ and ‘Company’. Only a web series like ‘D Company can do justice to the kind of material I have with me.”
Varma in 2002 came up with “Company”, a film loosely based on the Indian mafia organisation D-Company, said to be run by the elusive Dawood Ibrahim.
Ali Zafar elated with ‘Teefa in Trouble’ success
New Delhi– Pakistani singing sensation and actor Ali Zafar is happy with the success of his debut film in Pakistani cinema “Teefa In Trouble”, and says it is an achievement for all.
Ali is actor, producer, singer and writer of the romantic action comedy film, which released on July 20.
“This unprecedented achievement isn’t just ours but everyone’s to celebrate. I hope this is one of the many as we begin our journey to make this film a historic venture,” Ali said in a statement to IANS.
He joined hands with YRF for the international theatrical distribution of his home production. The film registered domestic collection of Rs 2.25 crore when it opened.
The film is a family affair with his wife Ayesha Fazli co-producing and brother Danyal Zafar co-writing with him.
Ali, who has starred in Indian films like “Tere Bin Laden” and “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan”, took to Instagram as well to share his excitement.
Nandita Das not scared of failure
New Delhi– Filmmaker Nandita Das says she is not afraid of facing failure as it “allows her to try out new things”.
Her upcoming film “Manto” is making the right noise and travelling to different film festivals. Nandita says she just wants to live up to everyone’s expectations.
“Very early in my life, and largely thanks to my parents, I decided not to have a fear of failure. It frees me from pressure and allows me to try out new things,” Nandita told IANS.
“Having said that, many people — producers, cast and crew — have put a lot of faith in me and I just want to live up to their expectations. And now with the buzz, I feel the audiences are also expecting something special. I hope all our intent and hard work will translate into an experience that they cherish,” she added.
“Manto” will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where she last went with her directorial debut “Firaaq” a decade ago. The movie, on the life of late Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto, will be screened as part of a Special Presentations section. TIFF will be held from September 6-16.
“Manto” follows the most tumultuous years in the life of iconoclastic writer Manto and those of the countries — India and Pakistan — which Manto inhabited and chronicled.
The film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the writer, Rasika Dugal as his wife and Tahir Raj Bhasin, Rishi Kapoor and Divya Dutta in key roles.
Talking about going to the fest, she said: “I have been to TIFF as an actor many a time, right from my first film ‘Fire’ in 1996. But it is my second time as a director. I went for the world premiere of ‘Firaaq’ in 2008, can’t believe it has been 10 long years! (IANS)
