Jiah Khan suicide case trial begins
Mumbai– A court here began hearing, on Wednesday, the sensational Jiah Khan suicide case trial involving Bollywood actor Sooraj A. Pancholi, who is charged with abetment, and posted the next hearing for February 21.
The son of Bollywood actor-couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, Sooraj was present in the court.
He has been booked under the Indian Penal Code for abetment of the actress’ suicide on June 3, 2013.
In the chargesheet, the CBI said the body of Jiah was found hanging at her residence in Andheri on that evening by her mother Rabiya Khan.
The CBI further said Sooraj had concealed certain facts, and provided fabricated information during his interrogation.
Sooraj was arrested on June 10, 2013 following Jiah’s suicide and is currently on bail granted by the Bombay High Court.
The high court also transferred the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in July 2014 following a plea by Rabiya Khan’s alleging that the Mumbai police was not investigating it properly.
Punjabi singer Akhil unveils love single on V-Day
Mumbai– Punjabi singer Akhil released a love single titled “Akh lagdi” on Valentine’s Day on Wednesday.
The romantic song was composed by Desi Routz and written by Bittu Sharma.
“‘Akh lagdi’ is a very beautiful composition. I believe that it will definitely become every lover’s ‘long drive anthem’ this Valentine’s Day,” Akhil, who has given hit romantic songs like “Khaab”, “Gani” and “Teri kami”, said in a statement.
The song has already been viewed 6,45,321 times on YouTube.
Its music video, directed by Tru Makers, has been released by Speed Records label in association with Times Music.
Amitabh wishes luck to ‘Bhootnath’ director for music video
Mumbai– Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has wished luck to “Bhootnath” director Vivek Sharma for his music video “Jaane Kya Modd Aaya”.
The thespian, 75, on Tuesday night tweeted the link of the song and wrote: “This is Vivek Sharma. Director of my film ‘Bhootnath’, now a writer and creator of a music video. My wishes for this new effort.”
“Bhootnath”, released in 2008, revolved around a boy named Banku and his parents who move into their new home, the Nath Villa. Banku meets the unfriendly ghost of the house’s former owner.
Big B currently awaits his upcoming film “102 Not Out”, which also features veteran actor Rishi Kapoor. The film is slated to release on May 4.
Anshuman Jha to make web debut
Mumbai– Actor Anshuman Jha, known for featuring in films like “Love Sex Aur Dhokha” and “Chauranga”, will make his web debut in the show “Babbar Ka Tabbar” as a Delhi-based tenant.
The show will also mark GEC giant Zee’s foray into web content with their digital platform Zee5. Set in Delhi, the show will have 24 episodes.
“For me, the script is the bible, and is sacrosanct. Over the last few years, I have focused mainly on plays and films and ventured into production with ‘Mona_Darling’. I have had my share of offers for TV and recently on the web as well but nothing excited me,” Anshuman said in a statement.
He is currently enjoying the experience of creating the digital show.
“I am grateful to the makers for involving me in this project,” said the actor, who plays Jaamiya in the show.
The shoot, which began in January, will conclude in March.
“Jaamiya is a character who is high on life, a bit of a recluse who stays holed up in the Parchatti atop the Babbar household. I haven’t trimmed or shaved for nearly two months now. I haven’t had a hair cut also. So, this is the messiest I have been and probably the first time that I am getting what you can remotely call a beard,” said the actor.
The show also stars Manu Rishi and Ayesha Raza.
Vishwajeet owes his success to wife
Mumbai– Actor Vishwajeet Pradhan, who has featured in movies like “Raaz” and “Zeher”, says he owes his success to his wife Sonalika.
“I feel that I have achieved so much because she has been with me. She is the lady behind my success. She encourages me to work hard,” Vishwajeet said in a statement.
“Sonalika helps to celebrate each day as a love day like Valentine’s Day. Nothing has changed with the growing age. There is something always new in our relationship. That’s why we have a successful marriage,” he added.
Why Farah refused to choreograph all songs of DDLJ
Mumbai– Filmmaker Karan Johar says choreographer-filmmaker Farah Khan is so professional that she refused to take up Yash Raj Films’ 1995 project “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (DDLJ) as she had committed to do a Marathi movie.
While shooting for “India’s Next Superstars”, Karan, one of the show’s judges, couldn’t stop praising Farah after contestant Shruti Sharma paid a tribute to her through her performance, read a statement.
“I love Farah. She is so professional and determined with what she wants. I remember we were shooting for DDLJ when (filmmakers) Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra personally called for Farah to choreograph all the songs,” Karan said.
“It’s everyone’s dream to work with these two biggies at some point in their careers and Farah was getting this opportunity at a very early stage. She refused to take up the project as she had committed to do a Marathi film. That’s the level of commitment she has,” he added.
The film’s team later shot for the song “Ruk ja o dil deewane” in India for which Farah was roped in.
Fell in love first time when I was 10: Aamir Khan
Mumbai– Bollywood star Aamir Khan opened up to his fans about his “pehla nasha” — his first love — on Valentine’s Day. He says he first fell in love when he was all of 10 but it was “unrequited”.
Aamir was celebrating the day of love by listening to his “favourite” romantic number “Pehla nasha” from the movie “Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar”. Later, he came up with a video on his first brush with love.
“Believe it or not, I fell in love for the first time when I was 10 years old… Very few people know this. I had joined tennis coaching and there was a group of 40-50 children there. There was a girl who was a part of it, and I was stunned to see her. It was ‘pehla nasha’ when I first saw her.
“I fell head over heels in love with her and was totally besotted by her. I used to think of her day and night. But I never mustered the courage to express my feelings to her. I was too young and she was of the same age. She was beautiful.”
He said, however, that in between all this, he improved at tennis.
“I used to practice a lot because I used to come first and go last. I wanted to impress her also. But after one year or so, her family left the city. It was unrequited love… Silent love which could never get fulfilled. I could never even say it.
“The interesting thing is when two, three times I fell in love, it was always unrequited love. I was never lucky in love. But now I am,” said Aamir, who is married to director Kiran Rao.
Aamir said he has a special emotion in his heart for lovers who fall in love but they don’t get the love they want.
“I hope there’s love and happiness in your life,” he wished his fans.
Rani to discuss life’s hiccups with Ravi Shankar
Mumbai– Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji, whose next big screen outing is “Hichki”, will be heading to Bengaluru later this month to discuss life’s hiccups with spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
Rani has been promoting her forthcoming Yash Raj Films’ production differently as the film’s core message is that of overcoming a weakness by turning it into a strength with focus and determination.
The actress will be part of the inaugural session of the International Women’s Conference (IWC), an annual event on February 23. She will put forward her views on the weaknesses that exist in society and how can people overcome them, said a source in the know of the event.
Rani said in a statement: “Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has focused on the power of positive thinking, of positive actions and of universal love and his message has resonated with countless people.
“It will be amazing to be part of this session and hear him speak. ‘Hichki’ is all about harnessing your positivity and inner peace to bring out the best in you and I’m going to speak about this in his presence. I look forward to this interactive session.”
In the movie, Rani plays the character of Naina Mathur who has a nervous system disorder Tourette Syndrome, which forces an individual to make involuntary repetitive movements or sounds.
“Hichki” focuses on turning disadvantages into opportunities, through the story of Naina, who faces discrimination in a society that believes she cannot be a teacher because of her disorder.
Directed by Siddharth P Malhotra and produced by Maneesh Sharma, the movie will release on March 23. (IANS)
