Jammu– The Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, killing two terrorists and capturing a suspected local guide who was aiding the group, officials said on Monday.

According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence, the infiltration attempt was detected on June 29 in the Keri sector of Rajouri—an area known for past cross-border infiltration—just days ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra.

“Alert troops observed suspicious movement in the Keri sector and, acting on precise intelligence, quickly engaged a group of heavily armed terrorists from the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit,” the spokesperson said.

In the ensuing exchange of fire, at least two infiltrators were neutralized. A local man suspected of guiding the terrorists across the LoC was captured alive and is currently being interrogated. A cache of weapons, explosives, and war-like stores was recovered from the site, pointing to a significant and premeditated infiltration attempt.

“The Army’s swift and decisive action averted a potential large-scale threat to regional peace and stability,” the official noted, emphasizing the heightened vigilance along the LoC, particularly in light of recent cross-border incidents and the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives.

Security forces, including the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, have ramped up counter-insurgency operations in the Rajouri and Poonch districts, targeting terrorists, overground workers (OGWs), and their local sympathizers.

Additional troops and surveillance assets have been deployed along the border to prevent further infiltration attempts, and security forces remain on high alert as the Amarnath Yatra approaches.

“The captured guide is being interrogated to extract critical intelligence on infiltration routes, terror networks, and links to Pakistan-based groups,” the Army said, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a 24/7 vigil along both the LoC and the International Border to prevent terrorist incursions into Indian territory.
