Amazon Plans $48 Billion India Investment Through 2030

New Delhi — Amazon will invest $48 billion in India between 2026 and 2030 to expand its e-commerce, artificial intelligence and cloud computing operations, the company announced after CEO Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The investment includes an additional $13 billion for AI and cloud infrastructure, bringing Amazon’s planned spending in those areas to more than $21 billion during the five-year period.

The funds will be used to expand Amazon Web Services data center capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad. The expansion will give startups, businesses and government organizations access to AI chips, managed AI services, cloud technology and software development tools.

Amazon said its cumulative investment in India between 2010 and 2030 will exceed $88 billion.

“We came to India over a decade ago and have since been serving customers, sellers, developers, start-ups and enterprises through our different businesses. The response has been tremendous, with strong growth especially across our ecommerce, AI, and cloud businesses,” Jassy said.

“We are investing over $48 billion in the coming five years to meet the strong demand across our business in India and to help the country achieve these priorities. We are inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a Viksit and Atmanirbhar Bharat, and we are committed to being a long-term partner in India’s growth story,” he added.

Jassy thanked Modi for his leadership and emphasized India’s growing importance to Amazon, which operates e-commerce, cloud computing, AI and entertainment businesses in the country.

Amazon said it has digitized 12 million small businesses in India, enabled more than $20 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports and supported 2.8 million jobs since entering the market. The company has also trained more than 10 million people in cloud computing skills.

As part of its future plans, Amazon has pledged to support 3.8 million jobs and help generate $80 billion in cumulative exports. It also aims to help 15 million small businesses adopt AI tools and provide AI education to 4 million students in government schools. (Source: IANS)
