A 50-year-old man allegedly jumped before a local train at Grant Road station after his wife was found dead at their Nalasopara residence; police are investigating both incidents.

MUMBAI- In a shocking sequence of events, a 50-year-old man accused of murdering his wife allegedly died by suicide by jumping in front of a local train at Grant Road railway station in Mumbai, just hours after his wife’s body was discovered at their residence in Nalasopara, Maharashtra.

The accused, identified as Majeed Hanif Khan, was a resident of Alfatifa Building in Aman Nagar, Takipada, Nalasopara West. According to preliminary police information, he allegedly suspected his wife, Tabassum Majeed Khan, of infidelity, leading to frequent arguments and domestic disputes between the couple.

Tabassum reportedly conducted tuition classes for young children from their home, with parents regularly visiting to drop off and pick up their children. Police sources indicated that Majeed had developed suspicions about these visits, which allegedly became a frequent source of tension and arguments between them.

According to the complaint filed by the couple’s daughter, the family had dinner together on the night of November 6 and watched television until late. Later, the daughter went to sleep in the hall, while her parents remained in their bedroom.

At around 5 a.m. on November 7, the daughter woke up and noticed that the main door of the house was open. Upon entering her parents’ bedroom, she found her mother lying unconscious on the floor with injuries to her face and neck. Her father was missing from the house.

In her complaint, the daughter alleged that her father had attacked her mother with a sharp-edged weapon, causing fatal injuries, before fleeing the residence.

Following the incident, a team from Nalasopara Police Station reached the house, conducted an inquest and sent the woman’s body for post-mortem examination. Police subsequently registered a murder case against Majeed and launched a search operation to locate him.

However, during the investigation, police received information that Majeed Hanif Khan had allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a local train at Grant Road railway station in Mumbai.

The two incidents, occurring within a span of just a few hours, have sent shockwaves through the Nalasopara area. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder and the subsequent death of the accused to establish the complete sequence of events.

Further investigation is underway. (Source: IANS)
