Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Member Hari Boxer Detained in US; Process to Bring Him to India Underway

Rajasthan Police secures detention of wanted fugitive following international coordination and Interpol Red Corner Notice

JAIPUR— In a major breakthrough in its crackdown on organised crime, Rajasthan Police has secured the detention of Harichand Jat, alias Hari Boxer, an active member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and a wanted fugitive, in the United States.

The process to bring him back to India is now underway, police officials said on Saturday.

The operation was carried out under the directions of Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Kumar Sharma as part of the state’s ongoing campaign against organised criminal networks.

The Rajasthan Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), working under the guidance of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Dinesh M.N., played a key role in securing the detention.

A special team operating under the supervision of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Deputy Inspector General of Police and Interpol Liaison Officer Yogesh Yadav gathered intelligence and coordinated efforts to trace the fugitive.

As part of the international operation, Rajasthan Police facilitated the issuance of an Interpol Red Corner Notice against Hari Boxer. The police also submitted 14 separate references to Interpol across five countries to track his whereabouts and seek action against him.

To strengthen the case for his detention, the authorities submitted a provisional arrest request, an updated dossier containing details of the accused and his fingerprints to the concerned agencies.

From Boxing Coach to Wanted Gang Member

Hari Boxer, whose real name is Harichand Jat, has deep roots in Rajasthan. He originally hails from the Bansur area of the state’s Kotputli-Behror district. His father, Girdhari Jat, is a farmer.

According to the police account, Harichand initially led an ordinary life in his village and aspired to join the Indian Army or Rajasthan Police.

While preparing for competitive examinations, he moved to Jaipur, where he underwent professional boxing training. He later began coaching young people in the sport.

His association with boxing and his work as a coach earned him the nickname ‘Hari Boxer’. The name gradually became popular among acquaintances and on social media before gaining recognition in criminal circles.

His subsequent association with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang brought him under the scanner of law enforcement agencies.

International Crackdown on Organised Crime

Hari Boxer’s detention highlights Rajasthan Police’s efforts to pursue wanted criminals beyond India’s borders through international cooperation and intelligence-sharing mechanisms.

Police officials said the coordinated operation involved sustained efforts to establish his whereabouts and secure action through Interpol and authorities in other countries.

The process to bring him to India is continuing. His return is expected to allow Indian investigative agencies to pursue further legal proceedings in connection with cases against him.

The development marks another step in Rajasthan Police’s efforts to target organised criminal networks and fugitives believed to be operating from outside the country. (Source: IANS)
