Jonita Gandhi Mourns Grandmother’s Death, Shares Emotional Tribute Remembering Her Life and Laughter

MUMBAI– Indian Canadian playback singer Jonita Gandhi has shared an emotional tribute to her late grandmother, Satwant Kaur Gandhi, remembering her warmth, humor and ability to find happiness in life’s simplest moments.

The singer, known for popular Bollywood songs including “Gilehriyaan,” “What Jhumka” and “Dil Ka Telephone,” took to Instagram on Thursday to announce her grandmother’s passing and share a collection of photographs and videos celebrating her life.

The images captured Satwant Kaur Gandhi at different stages of her life, offering a personal glimpse into the memories and family moments that Jonita continues to cherish.

Accompanying the photographs was a heartfelt message in which the singer reflected on the suddenness of losing someone who had been such an important presence in her life.

“Life is so strange. How someone can be so full of life one moment, and suddenly just… gone. I still can’t get her voice out of my head. The warmest soul with nothing but kindness (and a little mischief) in her heart. She taught us how to live in the present and be happy regardless of the circumstances. Her laughter, her hilarious one-liners, the things she would say without even realizing how funny she was. Savage, in the most honest and pure way”, Jonita wrote.

The singer remembered her grandmother as someone whose humor and positive outlook could brighten even the most difficult moments.

She described how memories of their time together continued to bring her comfort despite the sadness of her loss.

“I keep replaying all the little moments, and somehow, even through the sadness, she still manages to make me laugh. That’s how I know she’ll live on forever. My pyaari dadi ma… love you and miss you so much”, she added.

The tribute drew condolences and messages of support from members of the Indian entertainment industry, including actors and fellow celebrities.

Actress Kubbra Sait expressed sympathy for the singer and acknowledged the life her grandmother had lived.

“The full life. Sorry for your loss”, Sait commented.

Actress Ananya Panday also responded to the post, sharing heart emojis as a gesture of sympathy and support.

Jonita, who has established herself as a prominent playback singer in the Indian film industry, was born in New Delhi to a Punjabi family before moving to Canada with her parents when she was just nine months old.

She grew up in Brampton and later Mississauga, Ontario, in a household that maintained strong connections to Indian music, language and cultural traditions.

Her upbringing in Canada and exposure to Indian music helped shape her career as a singer, eventually leading her to establish a presence in Bollywood and other Indian film industries.

Through her Instagram tribute, Jonita offered followers a personal look at the family relationships and memories that remain important to her beyond her professional career.

Her message also reflected the lasting influence of her grandmother, whose laughter, kindness and playful personality continue to provide comfort to the singer as she mourns her loss. (Source: IANS)
