Stray Dog Found Carrying Newborn’s Body at Jharkhand Hospital, Authorities Order Investigation
PALAMU, India– Authorities in Jharkhand have launched an investigation after a stray dog was spotted carrying the body of a newborn baby in its mouth at Medinirai Medical College Hospital in Palamu district on Tuesday, raising concerns about security and monitoring at the medical facility.
The incident caused alarm among patients, hospital staff and visitors after a video showing the dog carrying the newborn’s body circulated widely on social media.
Following the video’s emergence, senior district officials, including the Palamu deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, visited the hospital to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to preliminary information, the incident was first reported around 10 a.m. when a man who had arrived at the hospital for medical treatment noticed the dog carrying the newborn’s body.
The man immediately alerted hospital administrators and police personnel stationed at an outpost within the hospital premises.
Police officers responded and began an initial inquiry to determine how the body came into the dog’s possession.
Authorities have not yet established whether the newborn’s body originated inside the hospital or was brought onto the premises from another location.
Investigators are also attempting to determine where the dog picked up the body and whether any negligence or criminal activity contributed to the circumstances.
The Palamu deputy commissioner and superintendent of police subsequently inspected the hospital grounds, questioned employees and reviewed security arrangements at the facility.
Given the seriousness of the incident, the district administration formed a special investigation team to establish the sequence of events and identify the source of the newborn’s body.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance camera footage from the hospital and surrounding areas to determine whether anyone brought the body onto the premises and how it may have been left unattended.
Police are also questioning individuals who were present near the hospital when the incident occurred.
District officials said the investigation would examine all possible circumstances and that action would be taken against anyone found responsible for negligence or involvement in the incident.
The disturbing discovery has prompted questions about the hospital’s security procedures, particularly its ability to monitor access to the grounds and prevent stray animals from entering sensitive areas.
Authorities have not released details about the newborn’s identity or the circumstances of the baby’s death.
