G V Prakash Says 60-Day Planning Helps Him Balance Music, Acting and Producing
Chennai — Actor, composer and producer G V Prakash says careful long-term planning helps him juggle multiple film and music projects at the same time.
Speaking to reporters while promoting his upcoming horror thriller “Immortal,” Prakash said he typically maps out his schedule 60 days in advance.
“I always plan for the next 60 days,” he said. “If you ask me today what I will do on September 21, I can tell you that I will be in Gujarat. I have a 60-day schedule and I follow it religiously. I deliver what I have to on time.”
Prakash, a three-time National Award winner, will next be seen in the lead role in director Mariyappan Chinna’s “Immortal,” which he described as an unusual genre entry for Tamil cinema.
“Immortal is a relatively new genre for Tamil cinema. It’s a vampire film. It hasn’t been explored much in Tamil cinema. It’s a fantasy mystery survival thriller,” he said.
The film stars Kayadu Lohar as the female lead and features extensive visual effects work.
Prakash said the production team deliberately allowed a full year for computer-generated imagery to ensure the film met international standards.
“We waited for a year for CG alone,” he said. “The producer told us that we would shoot for a year and that we would wait for a year for CG. Only then would this film be released.”
He added that filming had been completed before the release of “Lokah” and said the visual effects work was being handled by companies in Canada.
Prakash also explained the origin of the film’s title.
“I initially wanted the film to be called ‘Saaga Varam,’ but we later changed it to ‘Immortal,’” he said. “In this film, there’s a portion that tells the story of a man who lives for 4,000 years. It will go to a prehistoric time.”
“Immortal” has received a clean U certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification and is scheduled to be released Sept. 4.
The filmmakers announced in May that production had been completed.
The movie’s teaser begins with a light romantic exchange before shifting into horror. Prakash’s character is shown developing an interest in Lohar’s character before increasingly unsettling events begin to unfold, including the appearance of a bat-like creature.
The film also stars TM Karthik, Kumar Natarajan, Lollu Sabha Maaran, Aaditya Kathir, Arshu Maharjan, Pema Tsamchoe and Sunita Shrestha.
