India Expands Development Partnership With Palestine During Senior Diplomat’s Visit

Ramallah — India has expanded its development cooperation with Palestine during an official visit by Ministry of External Affairs Secretary Sripriya Ranganathan, with new initiatives covering education, healthcare, technology and women’s empowerment.

Ranganathan on Thursday inaugurated an India-supported Quick Impact Project at the Jericho Women’s Charitable Society School along with Hussein Hamayel, Governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley.

The project upgraded educational facilities and provided computers and other equipment to improve the school’s learning environment. It marked the completion of India’s eighth Quick Impact Project in Palestine, according to the Representative Office of India in Ramallah.

Ranganathan also visited the Palestine-India Techno Park, highlighting its role in promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and technological development.

During her visit, she paid floral tribute at a bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Ramallah alongside Mayor Jack Saadeh and reviewed several completed and ongoing Indian development projects in Palestine.

The Representative Office of India said the visit gave further momentum to India-Palestine relations, particularly in healthcare, development cooperation, skills training, capacity building and community engagement.

A major development during the visit was Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremony for the Indian Super Speciality Hospital in Arrabeh, Jenin. The facility is being funded by the Indian government as part of a commitment made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Ranganathan also met Palestinian Health Minister Majed Abu Ramadan to discuss deeper cooperation in healthcare, including training programs.

She announced India’s decision to organize a prosthetic limb camp in Palestine and donate a Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita and Maitri, or BHISHM, Cube for use in Gaza. The portable system is designed to function as a mobile medical facility.

Ranganathan also handed over the first tranche of life-saving medicines provided by India.

India and Palestine are also expanding cooperation in education through the “School-in-a-Box” initiative, which provides digital educational resources to Palestinian schools, particularly those serving students in Gaza.

Ranganathan visited other India-funded projects, including the India-Palestine Centre for Empowering Women, known as Turathi, and the Palestinian Institute of Diplomacy. The initiatives are aimed at supporting women’s economic empowerment, institutional development and professional training.

Palestinian leaders and officials welcomed the initiatives and expressed appreciation for India’s longstanding support, according to the Indian mission. They also emphasized the importance of Indian development assistance in strengthening public services and institutional capacity.

“India remains firmly committed to supporting the Palestinian people through initiatives that respond to Palestinian priorities, strengthen institutions and public services, and contribute meaningfully to people’s lives,” the Representative Office of India said. (Source: IANS)
