Pearls of Wisdom: Sometimes Love Just Happens—and Sometimes It Disappears

BOSTON–There are very few television series that make me stop and think about my own life. Musafir Cafe on Netflix is one of them.

I started watching it because my sister-in-law insisted that I should. I was skeptical. I wondered whether it would be worth the time and whether I really wanted to get involved in another series.

But she insisted.

So I watched.

At first, I was a little confused. The story didn’t immediately reveal where it was going. There were moments when I wondered why the characters were behaving the way they were and what all the pieces had to do with one another.

Then, slowly, the story began to unfold.

And it unfolded much like life does.

Not everything is explained at once. Some things only make sense much later. People enter our lives without warning. Circumstances change. We make decisions without knowing where they will take us. And sometimes, when we finally understand what something meant, we realize that we have already traveled quite far.

What stayed with me most about Musafir Cafe was its innocence.

It is a love story, but not one built around dramatic declarations or larger-than-life romance. It is about affection, care, companionship and the quiet ways in which one person’s life begins to matter to another.

The acting is simple and natural. The actors felt unfamiliar to me, and perhaps that made the story even more believable. I wasn’t watching stars perform a love story. I felt like I was watching people live one.

But somewhere between the twists and turns, something unexpected happened to me.

I started remembering my own life.

At almost every turn, there was a flashback—something I had experienced, something I had felt, a conversation I remembered, a person I had cared about, a decision I had made or perhaps one I wished I had made differently.

There were moments when I thought, I have lived this.

And perhaps that’s the greatest compliment I can give a story. It makes you forget that you are watching someone else’s life.

Love Happens. It Just Does.

One of the simplest messages I took from Musafir Cafe is that love happens. It just does.

We spend so much time looking for it, defining it, planning for it and wondering whether someone is right for us. But real love doesn’t always arrive according to a plan. Sometimes it finds us in the most unexpected place, at the most unexpected time, through the most unexpected person.

And when it does, something changes. The dreams of the person you love slowly become your dreams. Their happiness becomes important to you. Their fears become your concerns. Their journey becomes part of your journey.

You don’t necessarily decide to do this.

It simply happens.

And Sometimes Love Disappears

But there is another side of love that the series made me think about.

Sometimes love can disappear almost instantly.

A relationship can change. Circumstances can intervene. A misunderstanding can create distance. A person who was once central to your life can suddenly feel impossibly far away.

And perhaps the hardest thing is accepting that love can disappear from your life without necessarily disappearing from your heart.

But I have come to believe that when love is truly pure, you don’t have to stop loving the person simply because life has changed the circumstances.

Love doesn’t always mean possession. Sometimes it means wishing someone well even when they are no longer walking beside you. Sometimes it means carrying a person’s happiness in your heart even when you cannot be part of it. And sometimes, if the love is pure enough, life itself doesn’t let you stop loving that person.

You may move on. You may build another life. You may travel thousands of miles away emotionally or physically. But somewhere inside, that love remains. Not necessarily as pain. Not necessarily as longing.

Just as something that was real.

Maybe We Need to Be Patient

Life throws us around.

It takes us in directions we never expected. There are moments when we think everything is falling apart. There are other moments when we realize that what we thought was falling apart was actually falling into place.

Perhaps we need to be more patient with life. And with ourselves.

We don’t always need to know what happens next. We don’t always need an explanation. Sometimes we just need to remain calm and allow the story to unfold.

Because, eventually, some things do make sense. Not always in the way we imagined. But perhaps in the way they were meant to.

And that brings me to the ending of Musafir Cafe. I won’t talk about it. I don’t want to spoil the experience for anyone who hasn’t watched it.

But I will say this: no one knows how life will turn out.

We can plan. We can hope. We can love. We can worry. We can hold on and we can let go. But the next chapter is always unknown.

Maybe that is the beauty of life. And maybe the only thing we can really control is the heart with which we live it.

So, after watching Musafir Cafe, my takeaway is not really about the series. It is about love. It is about patience. It is about allowing people to have their dreams—and discovering that, when you truly love someone, their dreams can become yours.

It is about understanding that sometimes love stays, sometimes love disappears, and sometimes it changes into something we don’t have a name for.

And perhaps, above everything else, it is about remaining pure of heart. Because no matter where life takes us, being pure of heart may be enough.

This is life.
