Wanted Fugitive Ganesh Balaso Kale Deported From Thailand, Arrested at Mumbai Airport

Mumbai — The Central Bureau of Investigation said Thursday that fugitive Ganesh Balaso Kale, who was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, has been deported from Thailand to India and arrested at Mumbai Airport.
The deportation was carried out in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Embassy of India in Bangkok.
Officials said Kale is wanted in connection with a cybercrime fraud case in which victims were allegedly lured with offers of online part-time jobs. They were asked to make deposits as investments and later defrauded.
Investigators said Kale allegedly operated a network of cyber financial criminals by involving unsuspecting people in the scam.
“He used to lure individuals by promising interest/commission in exchange for allowing the use of their bank accounts for the transfer of illicit funds and subsequently utilised such accounts to cheat multiple innocent victims,” officials said.
CBI officials also said Kale allegedly instructed co-accused persons to arrange mobile phones and obtain fake SIM cards to carry out the offenses.
Based on the Interpol Red Notice, Kale was located in Thailand and detained by Thai authorities in Bangkok on May 24. After legal proceedings and coordination between Indian and Thai authorities, he was deported to India.
Officials said the Red Corner Notice against Kale was issued in May, and he was located, apprehended and returned to India within about 20 days.
Kale arrived at Mumbai Airport on Thursday and was taken into custody by the Maharashtra Police Cyber Cell.
“The CBI, as the National Central Bureau for INTERPOL in India, coordinates with all Law Enforcement Agencies in India through BHARATPOL for assistance via INTERPOL channels,” officials said.
Investigators said more than 160 wanted criminals have been brought back to India in recent years through coordination among different agencies. (Source: IANS)
