Shah Rukh Khan Celebrates Independence Day: ‘Proud to Be an Indian and Love Being One’
Bollywood actor shares an Independence Day message highlighting India’s diversity, sense of belonging and shared identity

MUMBAI— Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan marked India’s 80th Independence Day on Saturday with a message expressing his pride in being Indian and reflecting on the country’s diversity and sense of belonging.
The actor shared an AI-tagged image of himself wearing a white Pathani suit on Instagram along with a message for his followers.
“A very Happy Independence Day to all.. There’s something special about being Indian…the colours, the contrasts, the beautiful differences, the spirit and above all, the feeling of belonging to something much bigger than ourselves…our Country,” Khan wrote.
“May we always value what we have and do our little bit to make our country proud. Proud to be an Indian and love being one. Jai Hind,” he added.
Khan has previously spoken about his father, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan, whom he has described as one of India’s youngest freedom fighters. Born in Peshawar, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan was involved in the Indian independence movement and was associated with the Indian National Congress. He was also active in social and political activities in Peshawar before Partition.
Following Partition, the family moved to Delhi.
India is observing its 80th Independence Day on Saturday, marking eight decades since the country gained independence from British rule in 1947.
The occasion is being marked with events across the country to remember the contributions and sacrifices of freedom fighters and reflect on India’s journey since independence. Over the decades, the country has built democratic institutions, expanded access to education and emerged as a major global economy, while strengthening its capabilities in science, technology and defence.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the Red Fort on the occasion, outlining his vision of a self-reliant and developed India by 2047.
His address focused on Viksit Bharat 2047 and several areas of national development, including defence, energy, human capital, youth, self-reliance, work culture and national unity.
