NEW DELHI–— Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation from the historic Red Fort on India’s 80th Independence Day, outlined an ambitious vision for a developed India by 2047, placing citizens, youth, farmers, entrepreneurs and innovators at the center of the country’s transformation.

In his address, Modi highlighted India’s progress over the past decade while identifying seven broad areas of strength — manufacturing, agriculture, technology, defence, energy, infrastructure and soft power — that he said could drive the country’s next phase of growth.

1. Aatmanirbhar Bharat: Modi reiterated that self-reliance will remain central to India’s development strategy, with continued emphasis on Make in India, Swadeshi and Vocal for Local. Indian products, he said, must be capable of competing successfully in global markets.

2. Manufacturing at global scale: India must build and control the entire manufacturing value chain, from design and components to finished products, with reliability, precision and quality becoming hallmarks of Indian manufacturing.

3. Agriculture and global markets: Farmers need to move beyond production toward food processing and exports. The emphasis will also be on chemical-free farming and meeting international standards.
