Palash Sen Says He Is an Independent, Unapologetic Rock Singer Who Chooses Authenticity

MUMBAI, India — Palash Sen, frontman of Indian pop rock band Euphoria, has described himself as an “independent, unapologetic and perhaps misunderstood” rock singer, saying he has always chosen authenticity over validation in his musical journey.

Taking to Instagram, Sen shared a video of himself playing the guitar and reflected on the philosophy that has guided his work and identity as a musician.

“I am a rock singer .. independent, unapologetic & perhaps misunderstood.. Rock is rebellion against the machine … aggressive, honest & strangely Sufi … one with God .. one with your inner self … and borderline maniacal … which is what euphoria means (sic),” he wrote.

Sen said his music comes directly from his heart and beliefs, adding that he has never tried to fit into conventional or commercial molds.

“I sing from my heart & all I believe in .. can’t do the filmy thing or pretend to be someone else .. this is me .. some obviously understand me, some don’t.. but I was never looking for validation .. I was only being me,” he said.

He also noted that rock music, in his view, carries an intensity that borders on the maniacal, which he believes captures the true meaning of euphoria. Reflecting on earlier years, he added that his music emerged from a time when many artists were driven by anger and raw emotion.

Sen founded Euphoria during his college years, when he began composing songs in English. His first known composition, “Heaven on the Seventh Floor,” was inspired by his hostel room during that period.

The band’s breakthrough came with its debut release “Dhoom Pichuck Dhoom,” which became a major commercial success and received widespread critical acclaim. Euphoria went on to establish itself as one of India’s most prominent bands, releasing five studio albums, a compilation, and 17 music videos.

Sen later made his Bollywood debut with the film Filhaal…, directed by Meghna Gulzar, for which he also composed an eight-and-a-half-minute song, marking a significant expansion of his creative work beyond the independent music scene. (Source: IANS)
